Question about 1991 Toyota Pickup

3 Answers

1991 Toyota Pickup with 293,000 miles on it. I have recently noticed that upon hard acceleration the truck hesitates a bit before acceleration. This does not always occur, bit it seems that it occurs between 70 - 75 MPH. I thought it might be tied to the fuel system, but not sure. Can anyone help?

Last Tune up and wires was 9 months ago. New fuel filter about 12 months ago.

I have run injector cleaner through - no change. No check engine light is on. It is a 4 cyl. 22R engine.

Might be a good idea to grab a can of throttle body cleaner & spray intake of throttle body areas as well as throttle plate (both sides) etc.

Assuming that this is a multi-port fuel injected engine. Is the check engine light on? If so, rent a scanner, read out the code(s), and pursue to repairs. Fuel pressure may be low--plugged fuel filter or worn out fuel pump. Exhaust system may be restricted somewhere. O2 sensor is getting tired. Throttle position sensor is about worn out. Several sensors in the intake system can affect performance, but should show up with the scanner test. Run a can of injector cleaner in the fuel tank

Throttle hesitation

If you have no vacuum leaks, the injectors could be clogging up (winter gas or old gas can cause that) or the throttlebody may need cleaning. Use the correct cleaner that is O2 sensor safe! Also ensure the air filter is clean.

Clutch issue? 89 toyota PU 4x4 V6 150,000 miles

Yep, you got it. Assuming spring tension on pressure plate feels normal (you should know with 150k mi) then the clutch disk is worn. Time for replacement.
