Fuel level sending unit is probably sticking you'll have to pull the tank off the car to get to it.

The fuel level sensor in the tank has a break in the potentiometer (variable resistor) that tells it a wrong reading at a particular level.

If gauge is pegged full then while driving goes empty then full then 1/2 it is the circuit board inside the fuel tank that has gone bad. to get the tank to register correctly then you must remove tank remove fuel pump module the float arm can be adjusted to read correct level

Fuel gauge problem

Could be either one.
You could disconnect the harness at the tank and ground the gauge circuit to see if the gauge will go to full. If it does chances are the problem is the sending unit in the tank.

Gauge reads full when tank is empty

You have a bad ground, you will have to remove the fuel tank and check the connectons on top of the tank, probably corroded. You can clean the terminals or change them.
