The tracer is the same as the ESCORT, right?? TRY THIS--I WORK ON PLENTY OF ESCORTS--LOOK UNDER THE AIR CLEANER/CONE ASSEMBLY--THERE WILL BE A BLACK METAL BOX(FULL OF RELAYS) ONE OF WHICH IS THE A/C RELAY--TRY TAPPING ON IT WITH A LONG SCREWDRIVER OR SOMETHING SIMILAR WHILE U HAVE THE A/C ON. IF THE A/C SUDDENLY STARTS WORKING U NEED TO GET A NEW RELAY BOX(I THINK ITS CALLED A GEM MODULE) i do have a question- does the blower motor work?? how do u know the compressor is good??do you have 12 volts going to it??? this relay box is pretty common to go bad--u have to remove the air cleaner in order to get to it.get back to me.

Start the car and feel the A/C lines, if the low pressure line is cold and condensates then the system is cooling properly (internally). Then your problem is probably in the HVAC controls, i.e Blend Door.

If the compressor is running and the lines are not getting cold you either have a weak or damaged compressor an obstruction in the system.

To accurately diagnose this you will need a set of gauges that will hook to the high and low side.

FOR AUTO AIR CONDITIONING R134a SYSTEMS:
At IDLE - Condenser inlet temp 170 to 180, Condenser Outlet temp 135 to 150 (usually a 30 to 40 degree drop in temperature across the Condenser),

Evaporator Outlet temp 45 to 55, Compressor Suction temp 60 to 70 (usually a 15 to 20 degree drop in temperature from the evaporator outlet to compressor suction port).

With the engine IDLING, you want to adjust the charge so the line at the Compressor suction port is about 10 to 20 degrees WARMER than the Evaporator Outlet pipe, and with the engine running at 1500 to 1800 rpm, you want the line at the Compressor suction port to be about 2 to 10 degrees WARMER than the Evaporator Outlet pipe.

At 1500 RPM - Condenser inlet temp 190 to 200, Condenser Outlet temp 135 to 155 (usually a 40 to 60 degree drop in temperature across the Condenser), Evaporator Outlet temp 45 to 55, Compressor Suction temp 55 to 60 (usually a 7 to 12 degree drop in temperature from the evaporator outlet to compressor suction port).

At 90 degrees ambient, for R134a systems, look for about 200- 220 Pressures on the high side and about 25-30 Pressures on the low side at idle, and at 1,500 RPM look for about 220- 230 Pressures on the high side and about 20-27 Pressures on the low side.
The Compressor should cycle off at around 20 PSI.

SOURCE: 1998 mercury tracer air conditioner not working

Sounds like you have a leak in the system. Check the condensor in front of the radiator for damage, I have found the biggest problem there, small rocks getting thrown into the condensor causing holes in the cores. Good luck, Gary

Put in air compressor in 1999 mercury mystique worked then stopped

You must have recharged the unit? Or replaced the compressor unit? Some have an "overload" relay, it may have caused one of the fuses to blow.

Where do i refill the ac on my 1999 mercury tracer

  1. Turn the car on.
  2. Turn the AC on coldest setting.
  3. Turn the Fan on highest setting.
  4. You want to fill from the low side and watch the gauge. Sometimes a AC system gets so low it has to be vacuum pressurized for a while before a charge will be successful. In that case the gauge will go into the red right away. Something to look out for anyway.
  5. With the R134 the connectors are different sixes so you won't be able to stick the refrigerant adapter on the wrong connector.
  6. See picture for the location of your low side (where you will fill) The high side runs the other direction off your compressor towards the condenser. Remove green cap to fill.

1998 mercury tracer air conditioner not working has new compressor, new alternator.

If new compressor, did the mechanic fill it with the right freon and did he check the condensor which is in front, behind your grill and in front of your Rad.
Just because you had a compressor replace... won't get you a cool car

Where is ecm box located on 99 tracer mercury

It is located under the dash, directly in front of the center floor console. The easiest way to access is to remove the console, which is very easy to figure out and do. The console is only held in place with about 6 phillips head screws
