I have a 2003 PT Cruiser, turbo. It's making a loud, whining sound when I step on the gas (stops when I coast). Is it a bad turbo?

could have been the waste gate solinoid,most unusual

Right hand front wheel bearing is worn!

If it accelerates OK and nothing else seems wrong I wouldn't worry about it because it is probably just changes in the air flow volume through the air-intake system causing this whine!!

I took my car to Keller's Auto Repair in Gettysburg PA, He specializes in Chryslers. I have 04 Cruiser with 2.4 Turbo that had the same whistle noise, and check engine light on. He found code P0301. The noise was caused by the #1 Cylinder injector O ring. Check them out on facebook. They will help you.

your turbo is making a banging noise its more then likely pooched

does it quit after it warm up or while driving it?your belts might be loose

Turbos are fairly simple pieces of equipment and the failure almost always happens in the bearings. It sounds to me like one or both bearings are shot and aren't allowing the impeller to spin up properly. You'll need a rebuild or a new/reconditioned turbo.
