If the fluid level is ok as per you and you can drive forward and reverse then its not stuck up pedal or clutch. -------- check out shift solenoid it must not be able to shift to second ,third gear. ----------- as the shift solenoid is bit costly part.its advisable to get the codes checked at autozone service center its free for getting the codes checked. -------- the faulty shift solenoid will show the code 700. --------- this will help. thanks.please do rate the solution.thank you for using fixya.keep updated.

most probably the car will be hard to drive in that position.you will have to call local car mechanic to the place where car is got stuck in first gear.
other option towing.but that will be costly and that also damages the car.

  • charlymonty Sep 08, 2009

you will have to check out at

    www.autozone.com

ask them if they give onsite service if possible.so the company technician can come at the place and help you.getting your car to their nearest service center.

    keep updated.

An automatic transmission that will not shift from first is usually in LIMP HOME mode.

This is done to prevent further damage because of a damaged transmission component/sensor.

If the check engine light is lit - chances are it is a sensor failure.

Have the codes checked with an OBD reader at your local parts shop for free. Even if the light is out - it may be burned out, or removed by a previous owner.

With no light - the problem is internal, and will need a transmission specialist to tear it down, and re-build it.

In some instances a re-flash of the ECM will also take the vehicle out of the LIMP HOME mode.

Sticky valves in the transmission will cause the computer to be put into LIMP HOME MODE as well.

Have the codes checked/erased, and re-post to have them explained.

    Thanks :)

Transmission don't shift in drive

If the transmission will not move the car forward in Drive, check fluid level, fluid condition, transmission filter, and linkage adjustment.
If the transmission will move the car forward in Drive but will not shift out of First Gear, the shift governor has failed.

Driving up hill in my 1994 Oldsmobile 98, my transmission suddenly stopped moving forward. reverse in my car still works just fine, what should I check?

First check the selector rod or cable to be sure it selects the right gear.
Check fluid level as well. The planetery gears may be shot!

What is O/D on 1995 Toyota Camry? Light says O/D Off and car won't go into any forward gear. It runs and will back up, but not go forward.

o/d stands for over drive which is 4th gear in that trans.there is a button on the shifter to disable that gear for bad road conditions.depress the button to change, car should mostly be driven with o/d selected, meaning press the button until the o/d off light goes out.with all that said,if the light display wont go out it could indicate a trans failure code is present.if your car wont move in any forward gears, most likely you have in internal trans failure.check trans fluid level and condition, full and red is good.brown or darker colored fluid is bad.if fluid is low, then add to full mark and inspect for leaks.

1988 oldsmobile delta 88 won't drive forward

This is probably the transmission. Check the transmission fluid level to make sure it is at the appropriate level. If not add transmission fluid to reach the appropriate level. If this does not work then the gears may be burnt out in the transmission.

05 rubicon auto. rpm's jump from 800 to 1200 when slowing down, then back to normal. why is it doing this? the jeep wants to lurch forward when this happens.

Sounds like on downshift the transmission has a delay, transmission "slips" out of gear.

My first step would be to change transmission fluid & filter if it has not been done recently. (Assume level of fluid is ok).
