Upon cold start, rpms jump repeatedly and if you start to drive, the car lurches along w/the jumps until it warms up

Chanhe fuel filter, add can of SEAFOAM to gas. EGS-ethanol gas syndrome-is terrible in GM cars. you have large amounts of water and a by product cause by the corn(yes the corn) in your fuel. Try this and see how it works. Let me now. It sounds like yours is at an early stage.

I have a 1992 pontiac sunbird that starts when it is cold, but after it is driven and warms up if I shut it off it won't start again. If it sits for 1.5 hours it will start again with out a jump start. ...


Replace the starter for the armature is swelled up when hot and biding against the starters fields in there starters casing. Upon cooling off the swelling goes down and the starter is able to operate again. Remember when metal gets hot, it will expand and upon cooling it will shrink back to the normal size. After so long it will quit working from being so deformed from so much abuse

if this is a 318 they had a problem with blowing out the valley pan under the intake causing a large vacuum leak. it will also us oil because of this. you can run a vacuum test on it or remove the intake and replace the gasket
