Put a large screwdriver into the loop formed by the closed latch and pull the handle on the door as if you are going to open it. Put a bit of pressure with the screwdriver on the closed part (like the door post pin would if you were opening the door) and it should snap back open.

I hit passenger sliding door on garage door while

the door is out of adjustment. you could also have something bent. those are very heavy doors and I would recommend to take it to a honda dealer only for repairs. I helped a gentleman in your exact same situation and it took a 20 year tech all day to get it right.

The sliding doors on our 2006 Honda Odyssey

Happened to me today on my 2007 non-powered slider. Big snowstorm, lots of ice. I forced the door open from the outside and could not close it. Lots of fun driving home. I let it thaw in the garage and saw that the assembly was engaging, the lock was still spring loaded....and it works now. Last year, on the other side of the car, the slider would not close and it was because the assembly lost its spring. Dealer had to take the whole door off and replace the part. 500+ dollars.

2002 Honda Odyssey: sliding door jolts/reopens when closing

Please check the aft track roller assembly. It is easiest to inspect from the rear of the van looking forward when the door is open. You'll see the rear hinge assembly clearly. The track rollers cannot be seen but you can pull outboard on the rear edge of the door--the door should not move outboard more than 1/8 of an inch. If it moves out more than this or feels sloppy, suspect damaged/missing track rollers. This will cause the hinge to chatter in the track and "jolt". It will also cause the door to misalign during the close phase preventing the close motor from properly engaging.
Replacing this part is no easy task but doable if you are good with cars. Check back here for more details if you want to try it, otherwise get a competent mechanic or the Honda dealership to do it.

Help..

This is the door assembly latch cable... The parts are about $50.

There is a whole service bulletin on this from Honda... but they escaped a recall.... Look at this link

http://www.alancoxautomotive.com/assets/recalls/A00-047.pdf

It is about 3 hours of work for a novice but it will fix your problem.

You only need the cables not the whole assembly.

See cable assembly in the parts list below.

Honda Odyssey doors

I read about this issue while I was looking for a fix to mine. Try the following:

Remove fuse #13 for 30 seconds or more from the passenger side fusebox. This will reset the door and the clock.

OR

1.) Disable the power door switch on the left dashboard.
2.) Remove the power door fuses located under the front passenger leg area.
3.) Manually open and close both sliding doors.
4.) Restore the power door fuses located under the front passenger leg area.
5.) Enable the power door switch on the left dashboard.
6.) Try opening the sliding doors.
