It is a grounding problem.
The grounding "strap" that connects the motor to the chassis (under the hood) is loose, corroded, missing, etc.
The electrical system is finding a temporary ground.
1. The grounding strap may have become loose because a broken motor mount is causing it to connect/disconnect while driving.
2. Install a grounding strap ($12 AutoZone, $50 dealer)... even if the dealer doesn't want to.

Hope this helps!

My neon had the same problem took it to several shops no one could figure it out then one day a guy told me to check the starter relay fuse under the hood next to your battery. I did this and found that it was blown. I replaced that fuse and didnt have that problem for some time. It eventually blew again i dont know why it blows but replace it and that will fix your problem. let me know if this is not your problem.

I have a 2003 dodge neon sxt. Will start and run fine then drive for awhile shut it off then it just cranks won't start till it has cooled down

The 1st thing that needs to be done here is to have the PCM (powertrain control module) scanned for both active and stored codes as well as a running test.

What deep socket size do you need to remove oil pressure sensor on a 2005 dodge neon sxt?

Typically they are 1 1/16" but a regular deep well socket usually doesn't have a large enough opening on the inside to clear the plastic part of the sensor. They make sockets in this size just for oil pressure switches. I went the cheap route and bought a craftsman socket then removed the extra part of the socket on the inside with a die grinder. Took about ten minutes to do.

I have 2004 dodge neon sxt that just died when driving it now when i start it start and die 30 seconds later right after that i try to start it again it sound like it wants to start but wont i took it to...

it could be the computer although my experience has been that the computer would not let the car start at all. It almost sounds like the fuel pump dopping out after a short run. Have they checked the pump? You really should do a pressure check to see if the pump is dropping as soon as it gets pressure built up. If this helps please reply and good luck
