Generally no you do not have to but if you are going to change the whole compressor then yes you would have to evacuate the a/c system.

I have a 2008 Honda Civic which blows cold hair at first and then starts blowing warm air.


It sounds like you are just tossing parts on it, not diagnosing it first. Sometimes it is cheaper to pay a professional. Does the compressor stay running when it isn't cold? If so, is the return pipe, (the large 1) cold? When you replaced the freon, was it evacuated proprely, with a vacuum pump, for at least 20 minutes at -28 psi vacuum? If the compressor turns off when it gets warm, is power still going to the compressor? If it is, the magnetic coil is failing and/or the clutch gap has become excessive, not unusual on higher mileage Hondas. Your question about the fuse baffles me, why even ask, just replace it with a spare fuse.

Do you have to replace the entire air compressor when the bearings or clutch to it go out. I hope that I asked this right.


TO REMOVE THE A/C COMPRESSOR YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE SOMEONE EVACUATE THE SYSTEM OF FREON AS TO NOT POLLUTE THE AIR, THE UNPLUG AND UNBOLT THE OLD AND INSTALL THE NEW. RETURN TO WHERE YOU HAVE THE FREON REMOVED AND HAVE THEM VAC THE SYSTEM AND RECHARGE OR JUST VAC THE SYSTEM AND YOU PUT YOUR OWN FREON IN THERE.

Which compressor are you talking about? The air ride or the A/C?

For the air ride, it has fuses and relays. All the door jam switches and cargo doors must be shut.

For the A/C, you would verify that the system has Freon before attempting to replace a compressor. A low pressure switch would deactivate the compressor clutch. The system would need to be Evacuated with a Vacuum pump and then recharged, It is not like changing a starter. After prepping the system, you may need to jump the low pressure switch to get an initial charge of Freon, then reconnect the low pressure harness to the cut-out switch.

You need some type of guage to measure the charge. When the system has enough Freon to let the Low pressure switch provide power to the compressor clutch; the signal will be restored to the compressor.

Low or no freon. Bad compressor. If its low, find the leak, repair, evacuate and recharge with oil and freon. CLEAN Freon. NOT a quick fill with sealant. That will do damage the system.

You can jump the compressor without having the key on. Run a jumper wire from the positive post of the battery to the single wire plug for the clutch. If it clicks, find an AC shop and have it checked for leaks and repair.

New ac compressor, not accepting freon, not engaging


IF this was a DIY job then I have to ask if you evacuated the system and or did you have isolation valves on the compressor? Are they open?
If you have the valves then you dont have to evac the system if it did not go all the way empty. Short of that are you putting freon in the high or low side? Did you bypass the low cutoff to see if the compressor is going to engage? Did you replace the oil? The receiver dryer?

Need to change or clean out Orpheus tube. replaced hoses and compressor every thing check out good but after running ac for a while the clutch fan wont stay ingadge was told it could be a clogged Orpheus...


If the compressor cycles (turns on and off) frequently, and the AC is just cool, then you are likely low on freon. Did you evacuate (pull a vacuum) the system before charging it with freon? This will also cause your problem. The orifice tube is located within a high pressure hose near the radiator or the firewall. Look for diameter size differences in the lines at connections.

Not getting power to the a/c compressor to kick on the clutch. what could be causing that.


If freon is low, AC will not engage. There's a low pressure safety switch incorporated in compressor so it doesn't burn up under low pressure condition. Have system evacuated, refill w/oil & freon

Replaced ac compressor and dryer and evacuated the system, and i can't refill the the system the clutch won't engage?


you can jumper the low presser switch to in gage the clutch until you have enough freon in the a/c unit to keep the Freon low presser switch in gaged.hope this helps.

Just replaced the comprssor on my 2001 ford escort but it will not engage. tested the wires with a test light and I have no power plug that connects to the compressor. Key and ac are on.


Have you evacuated the system and charged it with Freon? There has to be some pressure in the system to activate the low pressure switch and allow power to compressor clutch.

AC air is only cool, how do you recharge the compressor?


You can buy a can or,refil kit of R-134-A at walmart however only put the freon in on the low side (read the directions) if the freon gas will not go in; run an 18 gauge wire from the battery to the compressor clutch switch to run the compressor if the freon gas still won't go in it must be evacuated and, recharged by a shop. only put in enough freon to get the system cold any more than that and, you will lose cooling again (over charge)
