Question about 1993 Ford Ranger SuperCab

1 Answer

The overdrive went out of my 93 ranger while driving. There was a vibration right before it went from drive to overdrive. Is there a sensor that could help this problem? Just wanting to take the cheap route before replacing the transmission. (This ranger is also 4x4.) Thank you

I have a 1992 ford ranger that will not shift into overdrive unless you do it manually in or out so I changed transmissions & this one is doing the same thing

The problem is most likely not in the transmission. Since it is doing the same thing with both of them. I would start with checking speed sensor circuit. The speed sensor send signal to the processor and the processor in turn controls shift point etc. You need a really good scanner and monitor PIDS. Watch what the speed sensor is reading and look at fuel trim to make sure the vehicle is seeing what the vehicle is really doing. Your OBD is very primitive compared to todays OBDII, which holds and keeps information. Therefore you have to monitor while driving and situation happens. If you can, try a KNOWN GOOD PCM first. However, don't go out and buy a new one without verifying that it is the PCM

you may have a Thottle position sensor issue, a Manual Lever Positioning sensor issue, or possibly an overdrive sprag issue, i drive a 93 Lightning, so these issues are commonly found on our truck which are very similar...check these parts, especially the Manual Lever Positioning sensor, then if that does not solve the issue try going to a transmission shop

93 Lumina 6cyl 3.1 engine shaking @ overdrive gear

check your camshaft and crankshaft sensors. When defective, it may cause stalls, misfires, loss of power. Also have check the engine for vacuum leaks. Hopefully this helps!!

1989 ford ranger- "D" vs overdrive

Overdrive is designed for highway use, to lower the engine's rpm's and conserve fuel. It will not hurt your vehicle to drive it in drive in the city.
