Wiring short when use indicator and brakes

Since you don't say what you are working on, I'll take an EWAG that the multifunction switch is bad, or that you have a short inside the steering column. In case you did not know, the brake light circuit runs through the turn signal switch on many cars, so that when you use the turn indicator, the brake light is interrupted and flashes.

Why are my indicators and brake lights on fiat stilo not working

The indicators and 4 ways are usually on the same fuse, see if the 4 ways flash. If they do but the indicators don't then try the flasher unit or the column switch. Brake lights could be the brake switch on the pedal is loose or faulty. Get into the footwell and remove any trim allowing you to see the pedal mechanism. See if there is a switch with a couple of wires on it operated by the pedal. If so pull the wires off and with the ignition ON short them together and get someone to check the lights? If they are On then change or remount the switch.

Indicator lights come on without being selected and when selected the break lights flash also

Check the grounds on the indicators/brakes at both ends of the vehicle. This gremlin usually occurs after accident damage has been repaired..the lights are disconnected, the earth is painted over, the lights are reconnected and try to earth through each other.

Hand brake lamp on instrument panel

The light is not only used to indicate that the parking brake is on, but also indicates that there is a problem with the braking system. Make sure your brake fluid is topped off.

No Tail lights. Or brake lights(when the headlights are on). HELP!!!

I think you have a bad ground at the back on both rear lights or their earth out on the same connection but these american cars use a funny system where the stop lights are the indicators and not a seperate yellow light like europeon motors ,Now these brake light switches also allow the indicators to work by shutting off the feed to the stop light so it flashes with indicators ,Why american cars use this system i dont know as its so complicated for the stop light switch function but try the ground or earth wire on the back lights and if no joy then ask a american mechanic with experiance of this sort of circuitry as when i get american cars for import i have to fit new back lights and disconnect the brake light switch .

Running lights work but no blinkers or brake lights. Changed fuses and bulbs no luck

I'm inclined to believe it is the turn signal switch. When you select left or right, the brake light is removed from that side, and the flasher is connected to the bulb instead, making the brake light on that side flash as the indication that you plan to turn. You have lost everything, but the simple answers check out.

If you have lost signals, brake lights and tail lights, then it is more likely that the ground supplied to the bulbs is not working, since the tail lights share noting in common with the brakes lights and turn signals but ground.

If the tail lights work, the fact that the brake lights and rear turn signals share that switch starts to look meaningful — even more so if the front turn signals also don't work. But the front signals and the rear signals use different circuitry in the switch, so it would be something more mechanical in the switch than electrical in that case.

I have a 2003 Jetta TDI and the coil light comes on and flashes

Amazingly enough, If one or more of your brake lights is burned out this can cause the Glow plug indicator to flash, replace the burned out bulb(s). This often sets a Code but will not turn on the Check Engine light. It took me forever to find this solution first time it happened. I've seen it many times since.

Hi the coyle is flashin and it says engine work shop on dash

The glow light flashing is an indication that there is fault. Often this is associated with a blown brake bulb or faulty brake switch which is an electronic switch at the base of the brake pedal itself. It often goes faulty on these Golfs causing the glow worm to flash. An odd way to indicate a brake fault I know but there you go - thats the way VW do it! Check the actual bulbs first though. Hope this helps.
