Black smoke and intercooler hose swelling when reved up

black smoke is not enough air for the mixture
the intercooler hose swelling up when the turbo cuts in indicates a blockage in the intercooler or air inlet into the manifold
with a blockage ou will get black smoke so check the intercooler cores for blockages

what car? and year>? and country , so we can look it up in our
great online sources. (all 3 must be known)
in the USA we use alldata.com (or the dealer FSM)

i guess you dont know that some heads are not torqued, or use TTY bolts, right? some are set by ANGLE degree.
that is covered in the FSM all that. the facts.
most head failures result from guessing.
or asking here, with no facts on car.
some engine run different heads, and different if turbo.

Intercooler

If the intercooler splits then any boost developed is lost and you might as well not have a turbo. It is common for intercoolers to develop faults and they should be checked regularly by the amount of boost you are regularly developing

My 98 subaru legacy made a big sucking sound and ever since then the turbo hasnt worked and there is a strange rattle around the intercooler area,

TAKE LINES OF TURBO TO INSPECT THE TURBINE (FINES) ON BOTH
INTAKE AND EXHAUST ALSO LOOK FOR LOOSE LINE AT INTERCOOLER
OR DEBRIES FROM TURBINE IN THAT AREA IF SO DO NOT RUN
REPLACE TURBO --AIR FILTER---INTERCOOLER---TAKE ALL PIPPING AND CLEAN
TAKE OFF AT INTAKE OF ENGINE AND CHECK FOR METAL MAKE SURE CLEAN OF DEBRIES OR THE MOTOR WILL SUFFER DISENTEGRATION FOR SURE

How do I remove the spark plugs from a 1996 Toyota Celica GT2200

Ok if its got the 3sgte engine with the water to air intercooler (earlier version had air to air intercooler and is much the same but no liquid is involved!)
1)Drain intercooler coolant
2)remove intercooler (3 bolts), disconnect the intercooler from the turbo, and intake air connector and remove the intercooler and air hose
3)remove the cool air inlet (2 bolts)
by now you should be able to see the spark plug leads, and is straight forward. The above procedure isn't as bad as it sounds, so dont be scared!
cheers
