New engine for '92 Camry wagon?

Our Old Reliable 92 Camry wagon blew a gasket at 200,000 miles. We are considering putting in a new engine, but can only find refurbished ones. Are there new ones out there? Also, the transmission has not given us any problems. Anyone know the expected life of this transmission. Not sure if we should put money into our Old Friend. We don't mind the little things breaking - easy to fix. But we love the spaciousness and zip of this great family car.

A new engine is $25-35,000 dollars(if Toyota even has them) The rebuilt engines are very good. 3 yrs-unlimited miles on repairs/replace engine. Get a name brand engine like Jasper or Atk or BulletProof or Gopher. These ARE Toyota engines rebuilt(sometime better than original) The transmission has evidently been a great one(mine has 185,000 miles).

You've done great on this car. But to replace engine and transmission; you looking labor and parts:$7-8,000. If you fix it, it will last forever, and you'll know it's good.

Or you could buy a certified used Toyota, and buy an extended warranty.

The only other thing is to buy new-$20-25,000 for a new Camary v/6 ( I don't know if they even make the wagon anymore)

I hope this has helped. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

I'm considering buying a whole new engine for my 1997 cavalier cause I blew the head gasket and radiator hose. What could be the cons to this?

Car in good condition is about $1500 and it will cost you more to fix it with a new engine. Suggest looking around for one that is running and selling yours. Or get a used motor and save over a new motor, they come with a warranty too.

Im looking into buying a 94 saturn with 215000 miles and the prev owner said that they were mostly highways miles but i was wondering if i were to buy it and take care of the engine would it last another...

you could get 300,000 miles on just about anything but its a chance nevertheless

personally, I have not seen many of these with more than 200,000 because there were head gasket issues at 150,000 or timing belt issues at 100,000

therefore, we assume that these were already taken care of or they are about to be in need.

Unless the cost of the vehicle is $500, I might consider something else

Engine started knocking. put in some oil detergent to try to quiet. ran about 40 miles. oil pressure pushed filter gasket out and lost oil. shut down quick. replaced oil, filter, and put in engine fix. as...

Everytime the system is over-filled, it would always find a way to escape.
When you replace your engine oil, it is best to park the car on a level ground, and tried to get as much old oil as possible from the engine.
My guess is that your engine might have been abused or subject to a long/hardous use, causing the engine to knock in the first place. But, what if only one or two cylinders are causing the knock? So in this case some discreation is necessary.
Detergent based oils always foam, and when this happens on a large scale, the result could be surprising.
It might be worth it to get a used engine from a reliable wrecking yard, and adhere to engine oil specifications.

Thinking about buying a 1986 Toyota Tersel

I have known the tercel to go easily 250K. If the price is right it is a no brainer. Usually the rust wins before engine failure. Those late model 80's Tercels consistently got over 35mpg.

Please leave me good feedback if you think this helped.

How hard is it to swap out a 2.8 to a 4.3 in a chevy s10 blazer??

Just pull the wiring harness and ECM. Everything else should be cake. Don't forget to protect the ECM from static, electric. No plastic bags, metal, or anything electrically or statically conductive. put it on a wooden shelf or something.

Rough idle

check you throttle position sensor first then fuel pressure regulator, then fuel pump. i have a 92 and had to recently do a massive overhaul. my rough idle was caused by a malfunctioning tps with a small exaust leak causing it to race and an intake manifold gasket. also check your idle speed adjustment settings.
