Intermittent stalling. Another symptom commonly associated with a problematic crankshaft position sensor is intermittent stalling. If the crankshaft position sensor or its wiring have any issues, it can cause the crankshaft signal to be cut off while the engine is running, which can cause the engine to stall.

When i was driving saab 900 gls and cut out no start, it has a new fuel pump on the engine

Depends which engine it is but some Saabs have a crankshaft position sensor and if that fails or the connection to it goes bad, the engine will not start. Also, if it has the Direct Ignition cassette, if it fails the engine will not start. I don't know if those two things are on 9000s or were only introduced on 9-5s, though :{

Just filled my tank this morning, went to start it before work and it turns over, sounds like it is starved for gas but wont start?

Crankshaft position sensor has gone bad. Fuel pump will not switch on if it is , or if its signal is weak or intermittent, will give symptoms of fuel starvation. Replace the Crank position sensor. Its easy to do.

Where is the idle sensor in the 2000 chevy impala

There is no idle sensor on the 2000 Chevrolet Impala, according to my online resource.

But, there is the following that senses rpm of the engine and thus the idle speed when the Throttle Position Sensor is at 5% or the accelerator pedal is not depressed:

Crankshaft Position Sensor Operation Engine speed is a very important input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Crankshaft speed and position are the basis for many calculations made by the computer. Crankshaft position values are transmitted to the computer by pickup coils also known as Permanent Magnet (P/M) generators, Hall Effect sensors or optical sensors. The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) also known as engine speed sensor is typically located in proximity to the crankshaft.
In addition, the PCM uses the CKP sensor in conjunction with the camshaft position sensor to calculate and perform misfire diagnostics.
Related Symptoms
  • A No Start / Intermittent Start condition - Can be caused by a faulty crankshaft position sensor due to loose connections, bad grounds, high resistance in the circuit, or opens in the circuit.
  • Engine Misfire Diagnostic Trouble Codes
NOTE: Engine Mechanical conditions can also create the same or similar symptoms. (Don't overlook basic mechanical integrity).

2000 Saab 9-5 wagen - engine stops

Sounds like your CPS (crankshaft position sensor) is defective. It is a cheap sensor $75ish and only takes 30min max to R&R. Both the 4 cylinder turbo and 6 cylinder turbo have this sensor (different sensor, same concept) You can also check the function of your FPR (fuel pressure regulator) by sucking on the vacuum line attached to the intake manifold. It should hold vacuum without leaking down.
