Question about 1998 Pontiac Sunfire

Radiator fan not workin and causing car to get hot

I replaced the fan relay and the temperature sensor the fuse is good then i ran a jumper wire from the battery to the fan the fan worked then i cleaned the connection on the harness that connects to the fan it worked for a little bit then it quit again i dont know if the fan motor was just gettin ready to go out or if there is another sensor that needs to checked can someone please help me this 98 pontiac sunfire is driving me crazy!

It is possible that you'll need to replace the fan motor or the entire unit if the motor it'self can not be replace separately from the fan.

You should have a check engine light on if your coolant temperature sensor is bad. It could be your fan relay. It's position should be located on your fuse box cover(s). To check the fan itself, unplug it and notice that the black (or darkest) wire is the ground, so you can hook your jumper wire to any metal part of the car. The other wire goes to the positive terminal of a car battery. Good luck.

check wiring to fan for 12 volts. check wiring and see if there is a relay that can be replaced or tested. If the relay is good, and wiring has 12 volts, then either the temp sensor or fan motor brushes are shot.
