Question about 2001 GMC Yukon

1 Answer

The trunk lifts/trunk struts on my 2001 Yukon have failed and need to be replaced. My questions: Are both struts the same part number or is there a separate number for the right and left strut and how do I replove the old struts?

They should when you purchase them let hem know you need both left and right but i believe they are the same as you should be able to turn the rod itself .

there is a nut at the lower end and a clip on the other carefully pull or pry the top one off it will come with a bit of strength use a 2x4 behind it so not to damage the rubber or body of the vehicle and that's it some clips will slide up or down as well look at it to determine this but mainly they are nothing more than a place holding clip

Trunk struts need adjusting 2007 Sonata

Not if they are gas charged struts, but could be replaced. Take both struts off at one end and see if that was the problem with difficulty raising the trunk lid.

HI, I have got the new Azera trunk lift support cylinders. I do not know how to replace the old lifts with new ones. please send the steps if anyone know how to do this.

These gas filled struts have a "U" shaped clip on both ends of the strut. Using a small flat tip screwdriver, pop these clips outward (not all the way out). Lifting the trunk lid slightly will allow you to remove these struts and install the new ones.

Just bought 2004 yesterday. Trunk is difficult to lift open and slams shut upon closing. Is it supposed to have pistons or something that assists in opening it? Just bought yesterday Cadillac 2004 CTS....

Most likely the "support lift"'s have failed. They are available at most auto partrs stores and cost about $30.00 each. Your car will have two and if one has failed it is prudent to change both at the same time. Installation instructions should come with the replacement struts.

Trunk lift struts do not help open the trunk lid. There is no "lift"

The gas has leaked out of the struts. Auto Zone sells these as a set far less than any GM dealer does. I suggest you get a replacement there

I need to replace the rear struts and spings on my 01 sable, Where are the top nuts to loosen for the struts

The bolts are located under the rear deck (where the rear speakers are located) inside the car. First start by opening the fold down rear seats. There you will find 4 bolts holding the rear seat back. Remove them. Pull the seat back forward and lay it down on the rear seat. Next remove the rear deck. There are 2 plastic push-in clips that hold the rear deck. They located toward the front. Pull them out. Now the rear deck can be removed by sliding forward towards the front of the car. Under the rear deck is insulation which can be lifted out. Under the insulation are the bolts for each strut. Remove these bolts and the strut can be pulled out.

Sliding noise in trunk

These cars have struts inside the springs. When the struts fail they start to make a noise that sounds like your problem. Also the strut mounts will make a terrible racket. Have these checked and replaced if needed. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Removing and installing trunk struts in chevy venture 2003

The trunk lift supports (struts) come fully extended. Install one end of the strut and then push up or open the trunk until the other end of the strut lines up with the ball stud and snap it on. If you cannot open the trunk far enough to line up the ball stud then you have gotten the wrong struts. Hope this helps.
