Hard to start when it sets overnight.Seems to be some type of fuel problem and i have replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump

Is the Cherokee flooding when it sits overnight? If this is the case your fuel injectors may be worn out and require replacement; this is common as injectors age and get a few miles on them. Check the spark plugs when you first go to start it if ther're wet with fuel you'll know the injectors are worn. Also.... how does it start after sitting for several days? If it starts well this is because the fuel that had leaked into the cylinders has both dripped thru the ring and evaporated from the cylinders making them dry again. I hope this may have helped, Tom

There is more to the fuel system than just the pump and filter...there is a pressure regulator and injectors to contend with... If they have not been changed, your injectors are 16 years old. chances are by now they are worn and even if they aren't fouled, have a much different spray pattern than when they were new. This is more of a problem when starting and at low speeds, as at higher speeds chamber turbulence helps mix the fuel/air charge.
If you have good solid spark and the ignition system (cap, rotor & wires) are in good condition, I'd look there for an answer.

Look along the drivers side frame underneath the drivers and drivers rear doors.area. Sniff for the odor of fresh gas. You may very well have a seapage that will eventually turn in to a very proggresiv leak. The engine, injection system, in particular has to maintain a certain pressure in order to activate the injectors. Your pressure is dropping overnight which would make perfect sense to look for a seapage. Good luck. Dana

The built in pressure relief valve in the fuel pump may be defective in the fuel tank, this causes fuel pressure to bleed off and causes hard starting..

1992 F350-7.3 4wheel drive is hard to start after changing fuel filter and fuel pump. Why is it hard to start?

indicates fuel leak back and fuel pressure drop
check filter installation for seal not sitting properly, loose fuel line fitting , pump installed correctly (flow wise ), filter installed correctly (flow wise)
air getting in to fuel lines
the thing you are looking for is indicated by the initial hard start but when started runs ok ( good fuel to the engine eventually) and then by the fact that if the engine is allowed to sit for a long period the problem returns meaning that the fuel pressure is not being held
could even be a problem fuel pressure regulator allowing the fuel to bypass ( no pressure =hard starting) then gets enough pressure to run ok but allows that pressure to drain off over time

Why will my 1998 chevrolet cheyenne not start unless primed after sitting overnight

by primed are you supplying a fuel source if so then the car is not getting fuel to burn. this indicates your fuel pump is bad and needs replacing and change the fuel filter also. the reason the pump won`t work sitting overnight is that the pump can`t build up enough pressure possibly because the fuel pressure is not being held, but after the first start up the system can maintain enough pressure to start through out the day. you can have the fuel pressure and volume checked with a gage when the problem occours to verify.

I have replaced the fuel filter and immediately afterwards the vehicle refused to start. I noticed that the fuel was not being pumped to the filter so I assumed that there is an aie problem. We used...

You really like to do things the hard and questionable way

Did you check fuel pressure?
Do you hear the pump run?
Did you put an amp clamp and meter on the pump fuse?

Why would you blow air into the fuel tank,
to try and ruin countless parts in the EVAP
System?

Don't get air in the system, you turn key and start vehicle,it will
be gone in about 10 seconds, blown through the injectors

The fuel pump may be retired, mechanically or electrically

You'll enjoy removing the fuel tank.

Check rubber return lines running from injectors to back of engine. Hoses maybe cracked and allowing air in the system causing hard long starting.

Driving over grade, ran low on gas & got a flat tire..rumbled to stop, added gas tried turing over sounded flooded, let set overnight, added more gas would'nt start, pulled gas line no gas...

check the fuel pump relay. it could have went out. If this is good and you still do not have gas being pumped then it is your fuel pump or a really dirty fuel filter. If the relay is good then I would replace the fuel filter and then if that does not fix it then go with the fuel pump

Hard but eventual start

Sounds like you may have a leaky injector which is both leaking fuel into one of the cylinders, and bleeding down any fuel rail pressure. Extra fuel makes it hard to start, loss of rail pressure takes a few seconds for fuel pump to build pressure back up.

Hard start when cold/first start in morning

The pressure relief valve is in the spider fuel injector not the fuel pump. We have had our 94 gmc jimmy for 4 years & have had to replace the fuel injector 4 times which cost right at $500 each time for the part. Yes the spider fuel injector cost averages around $500.
