I beleive that car may require a 5W-20 grade oil, however please check with the owners manual. There may even be requirement located inside the hood or, sometimes, even on the dipstick (remove it and check)
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

Valve adjustment shims for Mazda protege 2002 2.0 litter engine. Dual over head cams 16 valve. Was bored out .020 inches over? What size if it was over bored out?

Three sizes of pistons are available:
1. Std.
2. Over size 0.010 in (0.25 mm).
3. Over size 0.020 in (0.50 mm).
Over sized pistons and rings are widely used in all automobiles with no trouble at all. They last for more than 200,000 km, provided if the engine oil, oil filter and air filters are replaced at the recommended intervals.
The most important point to consider here is to maintain the oil clearances between the various parts during the machining process.
For example piston to cylinder clearance, crankshaft to main journals and big ends clearance, valve to guide clearance, at room temperature. Then comes cleaning process and the engine assembling process.

Scan PCM for codes. Check that timing is correct again. These DOHC engines are easy to install a tooth out. Start from the top of engine when installing timing belt on this type of engine it's the easiest way to do it. If you took CRANKSHAFT pulley apart make sure the pick up ring behind isn't placed in backwards.

Oil inside the #2 cylinder in a 2002 protege5

This could be caused by either: 1. Scratches in the cylinder wall, between the piston rings and wall. 2. A worn valve guide and seal. Add a can of Restore Engine Restorer 6 cylinder formula directly into your engine oil now, then add another in with your next oil change. This may very well solve the problem depending on severity.
