HELLO!

IM ASSUMING YOU ARE REFERENCING THE TCC SOLENOID OR BETTER KNOWN AS THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID. THIS SOLENOID IS LOCATED IN THE SIDE PAN OF THE TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY. THERE IS AN UPDATED VERSION OF THIS SOLENOID AVAILABLE FROM AC DELCO AND IT COMES WITH THE HARNESS ATTATCHED. YOU WILL ALSO NEED A SIDE PAN GASKET AND ABOUT 2 QUARTS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID. ON SOME MODELS LIKE YOURS THERE IS A TRANSMISSION MOUNT IN THE WAY THAT MAKES THIS JOB MORE DIFFICULT. IF YOU ENCOUNTER THIS BRACKET YOU WILL NEED TO SUPPORT THE ENGINE/TRANSAXLE FROM THE TOP SIDE AND THIS REQUIRES USE OF SPECIAL ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE THAT MOST REPAIR SHOPS WILL HAVE ON HAND. IF THE SIDE PAN IS ACCESSIBLE YOU CAN REMOVE THE SIDE PAN WITHOUT TOO MUCH TROUBLE THROUGH THE DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL OPENING. THIS REQUIRES WHEEL REMOVAL. JACK THE CAR UP ON DRIVER SIDE AND SUPPORT WITH SUITABLE JACK STAND. TAKE SPLASH SHIELD OFF THAT IS PARTIALLY COVERING SIDE PAN. REMOVE BOLTS IN SIDE PAN(13MM). GENTLY PRY COVER LOOSE. YOU WILL LOOSE A LITTLE FLUID SO PUT A DRAIN PAN UNDER WORK AREA. YOU MAY HAVE TO LOOSEN BOLTS ON SHIFTER CABLE TO AID IN REMOVAL OF PAN. AFTER PAN IS REMOVED UNPLUG ALL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS FROM HARNESS.(REFERENCE NEW SOLENOID HARNESS TO AID YOU IN WHICH ONES TO REMOVE) THE LARGE END OF HARNESS WHERE ALL WIRES HOOK TO HAS A RETAINING TAB THAT YOU WILL NEED TO UNCLIP. THE INSTALLATION IS REVERSE OF THE REMOVAL. BE SURE TO CLEAN ALL GASKET MATERIAL FROM PAN AND TRANSMISSION CASE AS THE SMALLEST PIECE LEFT ON WILL CAUSE A LEAK, DO NOT USE ANY SEALER ON NEW GASKET. AC DELCO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AT YOUR LOCAL PARTS STORE OR DEALER. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING THESE PARTS FOR A LASTING REPAIR. AFTER REPAIRS START VEHICLE AND LET RUN ON A FLAT SURFACE. CHECK TRANS FLUID IN PARK,WARM. UNLESS YOU LOST TRANS FLUID PREVIOUSLY TRANS SHOULDNT TAKE MUCH FLUID FROM REPAIR TO THIS SOLENOID. GOOD LUCK!!

Timing belt instalation 92 sunbird

Click on the following free direct LinkS. These are for your 1992 Pontiac Sunbird. They have both: the 2.0L 4-Cylinder and 3.1L V6 Engine Diagrams with the various engine options (AC/No AC etc.)
This First Link has the Belt Diagram/Front Engine Diagrams you will need to remove in order to gain access to the Timing Belt Cover, which also has to be removed so you can remove the Timing Belt.
http://www.2carpros.com/car_repair_information/year/1992/make/pontiac/model/sunbird/1992_pontiac_sunbird_drive_belt_routing_diagram.htm
This Second Link are the Timing Belt Diagrams, complete with Instructional Diagrams.

As far as a Step-by-Step procedure: It would literally take dozens of Pages using this type of forum. I strongly suggest for your sake: to purchase a Haynes or Chilton Manual, available at most auto parts stores for around $20-$25. These have every step-by-step procedure you will need; including the Torques Specifications for each and every Bolt and/or Nut you are removing or loosening.

Let me know if this helped, or if you have additional information or questions. Feel Free to contact me at FixYa.com!

My 92 pontiac sunbird engine sound like it is missing. I changed the spark plugs and wires. It sounds better but still misses. What should I do.

I had the same problem with my 92 sunbird. after a long time of fooling around, we finally figured out it was the ignition module, it the part that is responsible for firing the spark plugs, mine was only running 2 of the four cylinders.

Where is the fuse for the fan - 1992 pontiac sunbird

there is a fusable link attached to the battery and there is a AMT fuse in the box in the car, that says ac/heat. (I think) You may have to replace your relay or some other part of the cooling system.
Another thing is to check your fan and see if it works by direct connecting it to the battery. HINT- test the fan in an upright position, like it sits in the vehicle.

Transmission seems to want to be stuck in High Gear from a stop

Overdrive may have failed... when it remains locked, it causes this problem...have it checked by a reliable trans shop.
