I've got a 2002 Buick LaSabre. Firewall looks melted..car gets hot on short run. I do have small leak brake fluid. Could that be the problem?.


That would not cause the engine to get overheated. It may be too late to save your engine, but check if you have coolant loss and brown sludge on the oil dipstick, or if under the oil fill cap there is a milky brown substance. This is evidence of coolant getting into the oil. This engine in LeSabres has a common problem of intake manifold gasket failure, leading to loss of coolant that winds up in the cylinders and into the oil. If not driven much or if the engine did not get too hot, the cylinder heads and head gaskets may not have been ruined, but if overheated badly, the engine may be a total loss.

The intake on the engine is two parts: an upper intake manifold that is plastic (and just waiting to fail-many owners have had to replace this) and an aluminum lower intake manifold. The gaskets under the lower manifold are the ones that develop leaks. Because GM used inferior factory gaskets (also made of plastic) as a cost-cutting measure. They took a very good engine, well known for durability, and shaved costs with inferior gasket material-go figure.

I have a 2002!lincoln ls v6 and have replaced the lower PVC valve and the 90 degree boot all new upper and lower intake gaskets. I noticed when I took it apart there was a 90 degree vacuum on the upper...

It is possible, but.. Sounds like the vapor recovery system. Look under the hood for a black plastic canister with 3 or 4 rubber lines going to it. Generally tucked into a corner.. up front. Check the rubber lines for cracking or loose. Also check your gas cap as this is related to the same system. probably any emissions control garage shop will test it for free, or maybe an auto parts store.
Maybe an expert can chime in?..

3.4 engines are notorious for bad intake manifold gaskets.
if you are going that deep into the engine it is not much more
work to change the head gaskets at the same time, make sure you also replace the head bolts.

Leaking oil front right of engine 323i 2000?


This could be power steering fluid...a common leak on all BMW's or an upper valve cover gasket leak.

The hoses on the power steering are clamped with a ring clamp and the rubber shrinks slightly and fluid leaks out. You can replace all those clamps with conventional Hose Clamps from your parts store. The power steering oil reservoir has a lower hose from it which commonly leaks.

It leaks onto the coolant hose running below it and the coolant hose eventually splits, discharging all the coolant.

If it is the cam cover gasket, this involves a little more work. The gasket is available from you dealer or parts house.

96 subaru legacy, engine light comes on, has code P0304 #4 missfire,this only happens once in a while, going up a slight hill or a long hill, I have driven from seattle to portland and back with car loaded...


I fought with similar problem on my sub for a couple years. Had both a sub dealer and ind mechanic check. Spent lots of money but it still happened. Eventually I solved it by replacing vacuum hoes and putting clamps on them. Seems it was a slight vacuum leak. Worse under load (going uphill) and especially when cold.

P0171 and p0174 codes

If a car has a check engine light on and has P0171 and P0174 codes stored, the most likely cause is a vacuum leak. These codes are set by the car’s computer when it sees too much oxygen in the exhaust. Excessive oxygen readings in the exhaust will set lean codes. This does not mean that the oxygen sensors are defective. It is a common mistake for people to replace oxygen sensors when lean codes are present. Just because the code is related to oxygen sensor readings, it doesn’t mean that the oxygen sensors are bad. If both of these codes are stored this means that both banks of the engine have excessive oxygen in the exhaust. If the oxygen sensors are replaced it’s most likely that the same codes will reappear. It is very uncommon for two oxygen sensors to fail at the same time.

Therefore the most likely cause of P0171 and P0174 codes is a vacuum leak. The source of a vacuum leak can be one of many things. The most common cause of a vacuum leak is a leaky hose. Vacuum hoses over time can become dry and brittle. The rubber deteriorates and can leak causing a vacuum loss. Many times a leaky vacuum hose can be found by listening for a hissing sound. A large vacuum leak can even make the car run rough at idle. In some cases it will not idle without feathering the gas pedal.

U need o repair the pcv vacuum source it is the cause of the oil consumption, which is excessive crankcase pressure.

if you have the 3.8 liter its more than likely bad intake manifold gaskets or a cracked manifold. Ford has had several TSBs on this issue. O2 sensors do not go bad as often as mechanics say they do. I have a 1999 that after 100 dollars at the parts store solved all lean conditions on the top end. The manifold has three parts to it. A lower aluminum that houses the butterfly blades for the variable intake runners( known vacuum leak were rods protrude at passenger side of lower bad bushings likely cause). Middle riser which uses oring seals which dry out and cause major vacuum leaks. upper is more or less the top cover which uses one large oring to seal. Hope this helps!
