Question about 2003 Jeep Liberty

2 Answers

Jeep Liberty - Sport will not start after just turning it off.

My Jeep Liberty was just recently driven and then a short time later when I went to use it, the engine would not even crank. I checked the battery and that is okay. The gauges all light but there is nothing when you turn the key. I had a similar problem about 20 years ago on a Chevy and it was found to be the "Neutral Safety Switch", can this be the problem with the Liberty? Its been a long time since I did any major work on any of my vehicles so I'm not an expert by any means so be specific in your details.

I know you said that the battery is good...however, did you put a volt meter on it and verify that it has 12volts there? I always begin any electrical testing by both verifying voltage and load testing the battery (200amp load for 15seconds...voltage should return to 12 immediately after load is removed and should not drop lower than 9.5 during test)
I'm sure you removed and cleaned the terminals and posts...correct? Even though it's newer than what you worked on, safety switch if bad, generally will work in neutral as well as park. Most times you can change shift positions and start it. Do simple "flow test" check voltage in and out of ignition switch, safety switch, starter relay and at starter itself (12v at the main terminal, 12v at the trigger wire with key turned to start position.) Also check all main fuses in the power distribution center near the battery. Most times, you will not need to do all these tests before you find the problem.

It could possibly be a bad connection onto battery terminals, they can corrode while sitting around.

My 2004 jeep liberty stopped running two fridays ago. my mother was driving it, went into her insurance place and left my 13 y/o son in the car with the car running and a/c on. about 8 minutes into that...

I would get the battery checked, even new ones can be bad, I had a Bosch that went bad after 5 months.
Get the codes read, my 2003 Liberty recently had a problem starting also, thought it was the fuel pump or filter, code came back as the Crankshaft position sensor being faulty, could be a sensor giving you trouble, mine would start right away once it got warm.
When it comes to sensors there is not a lot of difference between making the circuit complete and not.

Hope this helps!
Cheers

The engine light came on recently in my 2007 Jeep Liberty. Everything seems normal, engine sounds good, it is not overheating, etc...could it be something easy to fix?

This may or may not work depending on the feature install in your vehicle.
To find out, put you Jeep in park, turn the ignition off, now with our starting the engine turn the ignition on,off,on,off,on,off,on this must be completed in 10 seconds. If you have a digital odometer the number should change shortly, the first number will be 12, each number will flash 3 times. The last number will be 55 which means "end of codes". If you don't have a digital odometer it will flash the codes on your check engine light.
If this works write the codes down and I can tell you what they mean. If it doesn't work then as far as I know your vehicle requires a code reader in order to read the codes in your Jeeps computer.
If you want you can take your Jeep to Autozone and they will read the codes for you.
