Problem for the back of the car was the nearside shock absorber. Replaced it and the heavy knocking went away. It was poor bush, but thought it better to replace the whole unit. Once this was fixed the rear A-Fram bushes were heard to be knocking as well. Inaddition, the front end knock showed poor bushes as well. I have ordereda complete front end suspension bush replacement kit and bushes for the back. These should arrive this weekend. My good friends at DG Autotech will be fitting it all for me. www.dgautotech.co.uk. Dave and Graham are both brilliant. Although they specialise in VW group cars, they know the Jag well. They have already changed my stearing rack, the back roll bar joints and bushes and chnages the transmission oil.

Could well be the Anti Roll bar bushes. Very common and a cheap fix.

Rear knocking 2000 impala

A broken sway bar will also manifest itself while driving over an uneven or washboard-like road surface. A clanking or clunking sound will emanate from the front or rear suspension. Broken sway bars will emit knocking and scraping noises over potholes and dips, sometimes rhythmically. This happens when a sway bar bushing joint swings freely without support and strikes the chassis frame or control arm. Hope this helps.

Grinding or creaking in 2008 ford fusion front end

Mr.Mangus have you checked at all your front suspension struts, shock absorbers,or lower wishbones with bushing and ball joints? I had recently a diesel ford focus 2007 with similar case and both front wishbones were replaced due to ball joints and bushes and then sent for steering alignment. Vehicle drive excellent. Please check.

Check the drop link and sway bar (anti roll bar) bushes also the knock could be in the strut top or the strut itself, maybe disconnect the drop link to the sway bar and drive over a pothole and see if the knock is still there.
