Question about 1992 Mazda 626

2 Answers

I have a 1992 Mazda 626 that will try to run hot when the car is at a stop light or just parked and left running. The radiator is not leaking. The car will run perfectly if it remains on the move. Also, the problem occurs faster in warmer weather. Do you have any ideas for me to check out?

I went to check the fan to see if it turns on. It does. The car still runs really close to the red zone. That was when I just let it sit and run, I have not taken it out on the road again to see how fast it reaches the hot point. Is there anything else I could look for????

Thank you for all of your help.

Check the auxiliary fan. It is the fan in front of the radiator which runs to cool the radiator when you aren't moving or basically when the car is getting too warm. It should turn on when the engine gets to about mid-temperature. If it is idling and heating up and that fan isn't running, then you either have a broken connection or something burnt on the wire running to the fan as is the usual case. Let me know what you find.

The next thing is to just replace the thermostat. If it is bad it can prevent the engine from getting cool coolant and thus making it overheat. Let me know how this goes.

of course the top is hot water goes into the rad from the top and out of the bottom into the engine, the fact that the belt broke makes me wonder about the integrity of the water pump, the impeller might be slipping, could still be the rad , does the heat go from the top to the bottom???

You have air in your cooling system. Fill your cooling system when the car is cold. First check the radiator if it has a cap, fill that first, replacethe cap tightly, then fill the overflow tank to the indicated level. Start it and turn the heater to the full hot position. Let it run untill it reaches opperating temperature. Quickly squeezing the upper radiator hose 3 or 4 times every now and then to "burp" the system. look for leaks. If this does not solve the problem you may possibly have a headgasket leak.

I own a 1990 Mazda 626. It continues to run hot, no matter how much coolant or water I put in the radiator or tank. I think my bypass hose is cracked and my radiator cap is broken. When I stop, shut it...

have you checked your
thermostat, most of the time it is that make sure that you check that your water pump is also working if after you have checked all this you must check and flush your whole radiator system.

Ive put everything new on my 626 and it still runs hot

the engine may have a leaking head gasket, to eliminate this possibility a reputable auto repair shop will use a device that attaches to the radiator cap it has a blue fluid in it that will change to yellow if any combustion gas is present in the cooling system passages indicating a blown head gasket. Try the alumi seal product sometimes that works.

Take the radiator to a radiator repair shop near you and have them acid bathe it and check it for leaks. It is possible that it could be full of stop leak.
