Question about Hyundai Sonata

2 Answers

Advertised mileage for this car(v-6 2006 sonota) is 22/32 - we have averaged 17 by calculation and by trip computer as well. Any tricks other than driver technique to improve this. Most other drivers claim better. Is it just ours?

We have the 2006 Hyundai Sonata V-6 We get only 17 mpg over 55,000 mi. Other friends get better mileage with the same vehicle. Driving techniques are the same.

Also the 2009 models claim 20% better mileage. What have they done to increase mileage figures and are there things to do to update my engine to get better numbers?

Check your tire pressure to make sure you aren't underinflated,

Also, you might consider changing where you buy gas as different cars react differently with the various formulations available.

How many miles are on the car and does it run good otherwise?

Now I see that you have 55k miles, unfortuately that info was not available on the first screen. I'd take the car to the dealer and have them check it out as it is still in warranty. They may well be able to find something because it does sound like there is a problem.

What is the standard fuel use in Cadillac devill 4.6 north star means in 100m how many gallons gasoline will use?

Gas mileage depends on several factors.
Average for a 2003 model is 17 city and 27 highway.
So if you combine those numbers, you could expect an average of 22 mpg which would be 4.5 gallons in 100 miles.

Cant find where the mileage is stored

This is right from GMC service repair manual
The vehicle odometer is calculated and stored electronically in the instrument panel cluster (IPC). The base IPC contains a season odometer and a trip odometer. The uplevel IPC contains a season odometer and two trip odometers. Momentarily press the trip/reset switch on the IPC in order to toggle between the season odometer and the trip odometer. Press the trip/reset switch for greater than 2 seconds, while the trip odometer is displayed, in order to reset the trip odometer.
The IPC calculates the mileage based on the vehicle speed signal circuit from the engine control module (ECM). The odometer will display 'error' if an internal IPC memory failure is detected. The odometer displays either miles or kilometers as requested by the activation of the Personalization button on the steering wheel controls.

Hey, was wondering what the message center display symbols and what they mean, lost my manual

There are five trip computer displays which may be stepped through by pushing the MODE button. The information will appear in the following order:

D AVG ECON (Average Fuel Economy): This shows the average fuel economy since the last reset.

D INST ECON (Instantaneous Fuel Economy): This shows fuel economy for the most recent second of driving.

D RANGE (Trip Range): This shows the estimated distance that can be traveled with the remaining fuel. The fuel economy used to calculate range is based on the last few hours of driving. When in a low fuel condition, LO is displayed.

D FUEL USED (Trip Fuel Used): This shows the accumulated fuel used since the last reset.

D AVG SPEED (Average Speed): This shows the average speed since the last reset.

My 2005 vw passat sedan is consuming too much fuel.fuel filters have been changed. could it be a problem from the control board?

Mileage can be affected by a multitude of things. Your driving habits will be the largest contributing factor but if those havent changed I would suggest the following:

Air filter replacement (k&n will get you more mileage)
plugs, wires, ignition coil (basic tune up stuff)
make sure the air pressure in your tires is correct
Make sure your calipers arent dragging on your rotors, this is probably not the case as I have rarely seen all four calipers drag at the same time, but if some are dragging more than others than this will increase wear and tear on your brake system and significantly lower your mileage.

If there are no check engine lights showing then I wouldnt think you have any sensor problems, but your o2 sensor can case your mileage to go down if its bad, but this should trip a trouble code.

I would not trust the on board computer to calculate your mileage either, there are too many variables for it to measure your mileage accurately. I would put a known amount of fuel in the car and reset your pedometer, drive normally and calculate your mileage manually before doing any tuneup. This will give you your mileage as your cars computer may be out of whack.

I average 33 mpg in my 07 passat automatic (by reading the onboard computer) on the highway. In town i get 22-26 depending on how I drive it. The mileage on this computer will fluctuate wildly when going up hills and down hills, during acceleration and braking, its just not an accurate measure of your mileage more like a guestamation by the vehicle.

2003 Nissan Maxima SE tachometer clock

Its not a clock its just calculates the time it took to make trip. The display at the bottom of the tachometer area is a "TRIP COMPUTER". It shows OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE, DISTANCE TO EMPTY, AVERAGE FUEL COMSUMPTION, AVERAGE SPEED and JOURNEY TIME. Press the "TRIP" button on the steering wheel to change through the modes. Holding the "TRIP" button for more than one second will reset the mode.

2007 honda cr-v gets lousy mileage

Hi, sounds excessive to me. For comparison my 2003 2litre petrol gives average 29mpg no matter how or where I drive it. You need to check over 4 to 5 tank re-fills (don't count the first tank-full)
Just a guess, but is the 4 wheel drive permanently engaged?
