Question about 1990 Volvo 760

1 Answer

My 1990 Volvo 760 vent/heat/defrost selector is not working. For about 2 weeks the air would shut off (?) when accelerating. Now it seems to be stuck in the ''off'', even though you can feel air coming through lightly from the floor and windshield vents.

Selector for air mode stuck on defrost

This is caused by a low engine vacuum, the engine vacuum is low when you accelerate, the HVAC system loses vacuum to the mode control vacuum switch and defaults to the defrost ducts for safety. You likely have a leaking mode control vacuum switch in the control panel of the heater AC system (HVAC).

When i turn on the heater it seems to affect the transmission.the jeep seems to bog down when accelerating but as soon as i turn off the heat it runs fine.

well as far as the bog down issue it will bog down a bit in defrost mode because it uses the air conditioner compressor to control humidity does it do the same thing when u use the air conditioner

but if u are putting on the vents it shouldnt use the compressor and if it is then i would that the selector switch is malfunctioning

AC/Heat/Defrost inoperable

Chanses are its either the blend door motor quit working or the controls ( temp., selector, blower) in dash are bad, my 95 did the same thing i chg. the blend door motor thinking it was that, but it turned out to be the controls in the dash, 5 minutes work and 140.00 later it was fixed.

Trying to figure out what the switches on the dash are for... figured out the one that opens the vent in the moon roof and the one that turns on the rear window defroster. Is there a picture of the dash...

If you don't have a manual, you can find one online.
search: 'volvo_760_owners_manual_1990.pdf'.

The ttwo switches are probably the heated seats switches.

Vent/heat/defrost broken Volvo 760

I have the same car and had the same problem. The inside air intake for the heater system is located above the passenger's feet. An empty plastic bag got sucked in there and kept the door from moving properly. I had to take off a few panels, then one on the vent. Once I removed the bag, no problem.

HVAC vent selector does not function. Air flow is

THe blend door seems to be stuck. When you change settings from defrost to floor air or, vent, the blend door opens and closes directing the air to the place you want it to go to. I have had some success spraying a lubricating oil such as WD40 under the dash on the blend door. You need to get under the dash with a flashlight to locate it. It looks like a flap. Spray it with a couple of shots of the WD40. Go easy on the spraying as you may be inhaling the fumes. Keep the doors and windows open to minimize the fumes. Wait about 1/2 hour and try the A/C functions. (defrost, floor, vent air)
