Try to shift your key in either direction while try to turn your steering in left and right direction. May be its steering lock which is attached to your ignition key preventing shifting of key. If not, then its obviously your ignition that has gone.
If you decide to change ignition then as a last try Dip your key in lubricating oil and then insert in ignition to turn it on. May be it can help.

No! The car shouldnt be used to charge the battery even though it may be able to tdo it its not the design to the charging system and you can melt stuff as the altenater charges the battery too fast and ( hot ) to be a good thing. If you can remove the key and it won't run in either dirction and the steering wheel isn't in a load so the key is held against the lock. Yes you could have melted the electrical part of the ingition switch. Now the battery isn't out of the woods either and after this hot charging try the altenater could have been damaged so the battery is on the way to the parts store to be tested and or replaced and the altenator might want to go too. Sure if they pass put em right back in.

Before you replace the switch try this. As you try to turn the key rock the steering wheel back and forth. The key may turn then, if so it was stuck due to pressure from the steering wheel lock. If it still doesn't turn yes the key and tumbler are bad.

I have my key stuck in the ignition of my 2007 Buick Lacross. How do I get it out.

Sounds like the battery or the ignition switch has gone bad. The key won' release until the shift lock solenoid is energized to allow the key to turn all the way back.

Possible solution - This happened to me and my battery was dead in my key fob and also I needed an ignition switch because a piece on it was broken which therefore wouldn't turn to start the engine.

Battery is new, engine won't turn over.

The voltmeter should only go as high as 14-15 volts when the engine is running. I would check for a poor connection between the battery and starter.

2002 sunfire key stuck in the ignition (run) position, won't turn off, no gages working, and will not shift out of park. now the service and theft system lights are on

Sounds as if the ignition cylinder is bad. You will have to replace it if the key is stuck. It is a lot easier to replace with the key in the on position as that will be required to remove the cylinder. If you get the key out and then the cylinder will not turn, replacement of the cylinder will be more complicated

My 2004 Pontiac Grand Am ignition switch all of a sudden with the key will not turn on or turn at all for that matter this has not happened before Why ?

It sounds like your telling us the key won't turn in the ignition anymore for some reason. If that is the case the problem is one or more of the tumblers in the ignition have fallen, if this is the case you will have to replace the ignition itself or at least the ignition core. If you mean the key turn but the vehicle doesn't start I would start by disabling the alarm system you installed to eliminate the starter kill switch as the source of the problem. Also, if this is the case try jumping the vehicle. If it turns over and starts with a jump your problem is the battery having a dead cell in it. It can have all the world but if you have a dead cell it doesn't have the amperage to turn the starter over.

Battery dies often and all dash lights blink

Hi
You might have a failed ignition switch fault here.
Try removing the barrel and switch, put a 12v feed to the swktch terminal to release trans so you can pop it into neutral.
You may need and auto electrician to actually see this one.
