Why wont the brake lights on my subaru impreza turn off?

check for a brake switch that disengages the park lock and allows the gear selection
If that switch is faulty then the lever will not move from park
it is a safety switch to prevent the selection when there is no driver at the wheel

It's not the brake switch. the lights for the brakes, turn signal, headlights, and parking all go to the turn signal switch/ multi fuction switch. this is wher your problem is probably coming from

My Subaru Impreza 2000 park lights wont go off

Hello, I think your problem may be fixed by locating the rocker switch on the top of your steering column cover. If you can see the orange or redish side of the switch you need to push down on the side closest to you when your sitting in the drivers seat. This is your park lamp override switch, it's used to turn on your park lamps when your ignition is turned off or the key is removed. Because as you know the lights turn off regardless of the headlamp switch position as soon as you turn the ignition to the off position.

There is a switch on top of the steering column that switches the parking light facility on and off. Check that this switch is not in the on position . If it is on then your side lights will stay on even if you turn the lights off.
