This truck is equipped with an aluminum oil pan you could have 1 or several things going on... a stripped drain plug which is causing it to leak or it may be a leaking front seal or a rear main seal. If it is a front seal it is not to labor intensive. But if it is a rear main seal leaking it will require the transmission to be removed since the seal is a 1 piece rear main

On a 3500 dulley 4x4 big block chevy gas engine, I have a cylinder 8 misfire and engine light. It also had a mass aire flow indication but that was replaced. only 86000 miles on 03 truck

Check the intake manifold gasket. If it leaks it will draw air into engine and this air bypasses the mass air flow sensor which will cause a rough idle or running symptom from running too lean. If you change the intake manifold gasket you should probably change the valley pan gasket at the same time. A dealer will change both for less than $500 and you might save some more if you dig around on GM Service website and find a coupon discount (Usually 10%-20%). You might save more at a local shop if you trust them and they do this type of work. Getting to the intake manifold gasket also exposes the valley pan and since you are already there it only takes a little more to change that gasket too. Some GM V-8 engines use a little oil between oil changes and if both gaskets are meticulously changed at the same time it will sometimes fix the oil usage. It did for me on my Tahoe (126k miles).

Oil leak between filter mount and oil pan.How to be sure which one is leaking.

did you make sure to remove the old oil filter gasket before putting the new one on cause sometimes they stick on there, check your old oil filter if it has the rubber gasket on it or not,and drain 1 quart out of the oil plug if you put too much in or you will blow oil seals

Will oil pan gasket cause check engine light to come on

it would have to be a very bad leak to cause a vacuum leak but that big you couldn't keep oil in it most parts stores will scan it for free in hopes to sell the parts to fix it

Oil leak on 2002 chevy silverado 6.0 around oil pan seems to be coming from the front and dripping down the oil filter

Hello....The first thing that you want to check..since you said the leak is in front is the area around the bottom of the crank shaft..If the oil is comming from there...This is where the main oil seal is for the crank shaft bearing...If no oil is comming from that area...you can breath a sigh of relief...There are a lot of stop leak products for everything from radiators to oil systems to transmissions...I'm not a big fan beacuse ...If it can stop a leak...it can stop the flow....The best cure for an oil pan leak is to drain the oil.....Drop the oil pan...replace the gasket...and if you do it right...you'll be good to go for a long time...PS.....don't forget to replace the oil....I hope this was helpful.....PEACE.....

I have a 02 Chevy tahoe....it sounds like coolant rushing throughout the engine while sitting at an idle and about every 2 or 3 days I gotta add coolant its not much also the low coolant light comes on...

I would perform a coolant pressure test because these engines are known for leaking intake manifold gaskets.Check and see if your oil is starting to turn a creamy tan color.

I was told there are two oil pans on Mazda Tribute 2001 (upper & lower) 4 cylinder manual. I have an oil leak do I replace both?

There are two gaskets, one is between the lower pan and the upper pan, and the second is between the upper pan and the engine. You only need to replace the gasket that leaks. If both are leaking, replace them both. To find out where the leaks are, raise the car, get underneath, and look closely all around the oil pans to see where the oil is coming from. Use a flashlight if necessary. You should be able to trace any leaking oil upward to its source.

The oil pan gaskets are not necessarily the only sources of oil leaks. Check to see if any oil is coming from behind the timing cover, and look for oil coming from the valve cover gasket.

I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY TAHOE WITH 150K MILES. DEVELOPED A SMALL OIL LEAK. TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY RECOMMENDED TO CHANGE THE OIL PAN GASKET. wHILE THEY HAD IT THEY DISCOVERED A SMALL OIL LEAK FROM...

Hmm with 150,000 miles i really doubt anything
It could be just a coincidence.

They could have possibly left something in the oil pan that caused the pick up tube to become blocked somewhat.

Took my 2002 honda accord in for oil change was told I could possibly have an oil leak as oil was low. What could cause this?

Worn gasket seal around pan, worn or loose oil plug, pin hole in pan, someone forgot to put back the oil cap are some suggestions that come to mind.

Oil leak on 2002 chevy S-10

HI, the best thing to ensure the right choice of repair is to look under the vehicle and inspect the oil pan and plug. you will notice on site where the leak is during this inspection. Considering the miles on this vehicle, the oil consumption is quite normal. you will have to replace the valve seal and rings soon. most oil consumption will occur around the 90-100,000 mile mark. Most likely, this oil leak will be coming from the oil pan itself but, it always good to inspect it before you buy new parts.

Please rate and god bless:)
