Question about Buick Riviera

Open Question

HOW do you remove the supercharger for repair/reconditioning? I have a shop that will do the bearing replacement and change the fluid, but they won't remove the part from the vehicle.

How can i install another automatic transmision fluid cooler to a 2006 mini cooper s

air transmission oil coolers lower oil temp by over 60%( more it the ambient temp is low) so yes they are the way to go
what is suggested is that you go to an accredited transmission specialist shop and get a kit made for mini cars and see how to fit it properly
They are not cheap( up to $500.00 aud ) but will ,save in transmission costs over time

Replace connecting rod bearing 5.3 litre Tahoe Z71

It is rather unusal to replace only one, but perhaps you mean they intend to replace all rod bearings. Even that is often not a good idea. Once a rod bearing has spun or failed, metal particles are al through the engine and the main bearings may be damaged as well. I hate trying to patch an engine in this fashion because it seldom gives satifactory results. You may wish to consider a short block engine replacement and have you existing heads reconditioned, or better still a crate engine of know specs which meets your usage needs. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Have a 3800 Supercharged V-6...(GM) The front of the supercharger is making a grinding sound when spinning...can I replace just the pulley and adaptor on the front of the supercharger without any other...

I was told the dealership was going to charge 2500 dollars for this repair. My friend did it himself in an hour. local machine shop can press bearing out and new one in. Worth checking into.

I need to replace the front pulley bearing in the supercharger. Do I need to take the snout off or can I get to the bearing without?

you should probably take the snout off, it will be much easier to work on the bearing without being crammed into the engine bay during the repairs. also if you have to get the bearing pressed in or out, youll need to remove it to take to a shop anyway.

95 riviera 3.8 supercharged wants to surge up and down constantly at idle, but runs well at 1000 rpm and up, also seems to have a slight rattle in supercharger

Yeap your describing a supercharger bearing failure it'll lock up after a while, It can be rebuilt with new bearings but the directions aren't known to me as I've just replased the whole unit. The intake and waste gate gaskets van blow too and you can find the leak with wd-40 or carb spray as when you hit the leak it'll change the way it runs. You may also need to remove the crankcase vents and stop them up to see if you have a leak to the crankcase ( intake gasket leak) The normally assperated engine did this quite alot but theirs few less supercharged ones and I've only changed blown bolwers that won't turn and the cases were so scared up that they could'nt be rebuilt. Oriley shows a unit in thier Knoxville warehouse and it's rebuilt. Find the rattle and fix it and you'll save a ton of money as the repair may seem expensive but the new charger will set you back much more and the work is about the same.

93 pontiac bonnieville superchaarger. Was making a lot of noise. belt came off and nose pully and shaft are really loose. Can I just replace the nose or do I need a whole new unit.

Sounds like you have a bearing failure either in the extension housing or at the rear of the impellers.
you can remove the extension housing by first removing the pulley at the front and removing the bolts at the rear of the housing where it meets the main body of the supercharger and slide it foreward if there is room.
I stripped down my supercharger after I had it reconditioned because the mechanic had left a small piece of aluminium shaving inside it and it jammed the impellers and it would not turn at all, I replaced all the bearings and seals as well and have had no more trouble so far.
I hope this helps you.

Can the supercharger be changed out to a regular intake manifold

NO THE PCM IS PROGRAMED TO RUN WITH IT. IF THE SUPCHARGER IS MAKING NOISE, THEN THE PLASTIC WHEEL ON THE INSIDE OF THE SNORKLE IS OUT OF ROUND. REPLACE THE AND YOU'LL BE FINE. MAKE SURE YOU DRAIN THE SUPERCHARGER OIL FIRST OR YOU WILL HAVE A MESS. THERE IS AN ALLEN HEAD DRAIN AND FILL PLUG BY THE SNORKLE. YOU WILL NEED SOMETHING TO **** THE FLUID OUT. YOU WILL HAVE TO GET NEW FLUID FROM THE DEALER NORMALLY 3 BOLTS ARE ENOUGH. TO REMOVE THE SNORKLE THERE ARE A SERIES OF 10 MM BOLTS. TAKE THOSE OUT AND GENTLE TAP ON THE SNORKLE AND IT WILL COME OFF. YOU SHOULD CHANGE THE SUPERCHARGER FLUID EVERY 100K OR SO. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO BUY THOSE PLASTIC WHEELS ON EBAY.

Supercharger is making a knocking noise at idle. Is this normal or is something wrong?

Something wrong, common noise when the bearing is warn and should be be driven till bearing is replaced. Internal supercharger parts may break loose and run through the engine causing expensive repairs such as engine replacement other then the supercharger.
Thank you for using fixya, and be safe.

You can replace the nose with bearing. If its making a clunking sound you will need the whole unit. Check out some of the people that rebuild these for more info.
