Air conditioner went out first. 105 lbs freon on the low side. Blower for air and heat blows fine. Then the charging system stopped. Jumped the alternator and it charges when exturnaly powered from the battery. Led me to think the ECM was the problem. Replaced it and the charging system is not working again after one day of new ECM. BTW, Battery is 4 mo. old. What next?

SOUND LIKE AIR CONDITIONER SYSTEM IS FULL OF AIR AND MOISTURE.YOU HAVE TO TAKE TRUCK TO AC SHOP.THEY HAVE TO DISCHARGE AC SYSTEM.THEN REPLACE ACCUMULATOR.THEN EVACUATE THE SYSTEM THEN RECHARGE THE SYSTEM.CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE AND FUSE LINK.IF ALL IS GOOD.REMOVE ALTERNATOR HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AT AUTO ZONE OR ADVANCE AUTO.DUE TO LOCK OUT FEATURES.BESURE TO TURN OFF RADIO.BEFORE REMOVING NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.SO YOU WONT LOSE RADIO CODE.

Only way to tell if A/C Evaporator Core Orifice tube is plugged is by looking at A/C gauge readings , An if it is plugged you more then likely need a new compressor , they become plugged with metal particles from worn out compressor. Your best bet would be to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop .
It may still be low on freon. It can hold several cans. High side should be around 250psi and low around 35 or 45psi at idle if system is charged. If you raise engine speed the low can drop below 20psi and switch off the compressor if the system is low on freon. Could be a restriction in the system, bad relay, or bad a/c compressor-clutch.
For charging purposes, you really should be monitoring the low side pressure. Depending on ambient air temperature, the low side should be between 30 and 50 lbs PSI. The high side can be between 135 and 330 lbs PSI.
Ok if you want to do a home repair in hopes of saving yourself a lot of money and with hopes your system is not in major trouble, here goes:
First step buy 3 types of 1 lb. cans of refrigerant R134a at a parts store, 1 can of leak detector freon combination, and if possible 1 can freon/air conditioning oil combination freon along with 1 can of straight r134a freon.
The store will sell you a charge hose with a cheap type of charge gauge attachment and fittings to attach to your system for the re-charge.
Providing your system is low on freon,First, with the vehicle running and the a/c on full cold, high fan, install the 1 lb. can of freon/oil combo first only charging through the low pressure side of the system never through the thin line high pressure side as the pressure from the high side can enter the cgharging freon can and explode it like a bomb,(this low side line is the larger hose and the low side charging hose fitting the parts store sells you will only screw onto the low side charge valve which is normally marked "low" on the top of the plastic dust cap that is factory installed(hand screwed) on the low side valve fitting.
Secondly after the oil/combo can is emptied into the low side and you of course are wearing mechanics hand protection gloves and eye protection googles, then and only then will you install the leak dector 1 lb. freon can combo.
Third you will install the last 1 lb can of r134a freon, however your vehicle will not allow the whole last pound of freon into its system by means of a pressure relief blow valve that will automatically blow off any excess pressure once the system over fills, the system typically holds approximately 2.75 lbs. of freon.
If you have successfully installed the above freon into the system it should be up and running providing the system is in fairly good working order, by that I mean it may have a very slow leak that allowed the freon tio originally escape in the first place causing you to refill it, and if it does have a leak the leak detector die that you installed into the system should leak out from wherever it may be escaping from, indicating the place of needed repair by means of a red or blue, or whatever other designated coloration the die gives out from the leaking area.
Please note: Not all home charging techniques typically work as there are many mechanical failure factors in an a/c system that may require a certified a/c technician to determine exactly why your system is not working should the home remedy fail.
I hope this helps you and remember to always work safe with eye and hand protection especially around freon gases which become extremely cold and can cause frost bite when contacting with the bare skin.
You may have created an over charged condition and at this point the a/c compressor will cut off on high head pressures. This can be verified by installing gauges to the systems high and low side service taps and reading the pressures.An overcharged system will start the compressor briefly but soon cuts off once pressure goes to 350 - 400 lbs on the high side. Acceptable pressures for this system should be no greater than 250 high and low suction should drop to 40-50 psi.You might recover the charge and evacuate the system,then try bringing the charge back to proper level.A sight glass in the reciever drier really helps determining proper fill.Once all bubbles have dissipated from the sight glass during charging ,one should stop at that point to avoid overfilling.Too much freon is worse than a low charge especially in hot ambient conditions....
sounds like the a/c is not fully charged, have the system serviced by pulling the freon out and pull a vaccum on the system and recharging with proper amount of freon. this should fix the problem. if when fully charged and this happens either the high pressure switch or low pressure switch could be bad.
Hello I'm a M.B. tech. 1st you need to know why the freon is low. Hopefully it just needs to be serviced. There is a component located in the lf of the engine compartment called a receiver drier. It soaks up the moisture in the freon so the gases can work the way they are supposed to. On this unit there should be 2 switches(I believe they were combined into one switch in 98. 1 switch is a temp switch that operates your electric fans, the other is a compressor cutoff switch. Assuming the compressor is not coming on-take a fused wire and bridge the 2 contacts- If the compressor does not come on at all there is another problem(it is not low on freon. On the condenserthere is a high side port(it is the bigger of the 2)By the brake master Cyl.(lf of the engine compartment thereshould be a smaller low side valve in line with the fuel cooler hose. Usually you can hook up a machine to the low port and **** freon in through that port. Assuming you do not have a refrigerant machine. It is very self explanatory on the bottle of r 134a refrigerant which can be purchased at your local auto supply store. I would start with 1 lbs. and add dye with the freon in case there is a big leak. If the system is overcharged it will not cool properly. I believe the system capacity is approx. 2 lbs. Add a few ounces after the first pound until a/c system is cooling properly and the electric fans are also coming on when the system gets to high. If you get a can with a good Gage set on it you should see the high side between 150 and 2000 psi(fan coming on at max. press.) also the low side should read about 35. It is about the temp of the evaporator which is i=located in the dash and the blower blows through this component out through the vents. Hopefully I have been helpful.
Sounds like the A/C system just needs to be recharged. When was the last time you had this done? Just take it in to your mechanic and he can do it for you and if that's not it for some reason, then he will be able to find the problem but most likely you need more freon added.
