My 2001 jetta factory radio has no power at all

I recently bought this car used. When I test drove it, the radio didn't work. I pushed the powre button but nothing happens or shows up on the display. But I figured it wouldn't be a big deal like a fuse or something minor to fix. However, all my fuses are working. The guy at the vw dealership said there might be a fuse on the back of the radio itselfand its just a matter of taking the radio out and checking it. However, my keyless entry remote isn't working either. It could be just that the battery in it is dead, but could this problem be related to the radio? I have never owned a VW before so I'm clueless. And I found the code to put in when I do get the power to come on. Any suggestions from anyone would help!

Something is draining my battery 134,000 M

IT costs nothing to have a load test done on the battery to check for a dead cell which your problems point to. While the engine is running the alternator will be handling the power requirement but the battery will not supply the power required to start.

My girlfriend just had the same thing happen in her 01 Impala. New radio and 150 dollar radio wire harness. If you dont fix it, you'll keep draining the battery till it's broken too.

Here is the security link.

I would have the battery checked out still, it don't take much power for the radio to work, and by what you say, that the gas and temp. gauge jump up and down when trying to start, that tells me weak battery, most auto parts will do a free battery test for you, have it checked out. hope this was very helpful.

I am not aware they can be turned off, there is somtimes a dimmer switch on the right side of the steering wheel (RHD), but the display will always be visible. sounds like your display might have packed up.

If i get a new cd player/radio for my jetta work if in safe mode?

If you buy another factory radio it'll need the unlock code to work with your factory alarm system. But if you go with an after market radio it'll work just fine, your alarm will just think there's no radio installed.
