If you cranked the engine with the belt not turning/off you have bent the engine's valves, not a home repair now, sorry this is what is called an "INTERFERENCE ENGINE".

If you are not a mechanic, it can be very difficult. Timing is the most important and difficult part of the ignition system to repair. The succes of your repair depends entirely on your experience. You risk catastrophic failure of vital engine components when working on timing related components

Timing belt and water pump

Very. Not recommended unless you've done other MAJOR work on an engine. Getting the timing belt wrong and running the motor can destroy it. I believe you have an interference type engine, meaning that if the timing is off enough, the piston and valves will come together, and not in a happy way. I'm talking destruction like your wife coming home and finding you with her sister.
If you have a few hydraulic floor jacks, a fairly large air compressor and tools, seal pullers, probably a lift, and a good Haynes manual (if available for your vehicle), then give it a try. Even the dealership will need at least half a day to do this job, if not longer.
So for a novice, I'd avoid it. Something as critical as the timing belt, I'll leave to professionals.

pulling the timing belt on older RAV4 engines is a more difficult task but not impossible.

Do you have some experience with timing belts and or cars in general?

Most of the time accessory belts are changed along with timing components. If the belt was bad already they should have changed it or called her to say it was bad. I'd think this one should be on the house - either they reinstalled a bad belt or improperly installed a good one.

This is a difficult job and you should probably have a pro do it. Don't mean to discourage, just save you some grief in the long run. If you have a lot of experience and want to try it, this is probably the best site to check out:

How to Replace timing belt.

Best to have a professional mechanic take a look at it as there could be damage to the pistons, crank etc. It will be become expensive only if there is damage to any of these.

1997 dodge avenger 2.0, belt squealing

Hi

The Power Steering Belt tension requires adjustment, to give it more tension, to cure the slipping, resulting in the squealing, or perhaps renewal, due to cracking or excessive wear.

Your Power steering Belt, belt is your primary problem.

Good Luck !

Replace timing belt slapping against plastic cover

No way I can guide you through a belt replacement without re-writing a manual. If you've ever done a chain before, its the same stuff, just a belt instead of chain. Make sure tension is correct and that timing (index) marks on cam & crank pulleys are aligned properly. If you find any oil leaks in there, fix them before replacing belt. Get a manual... The job itself isn't that difficult, but is time consuming.
