1989 volvo gl fuel gauge not working properly

Your sending unit in the tank is bad and needs to be replaced. There is a short in it. That is the only thing that can go wrong with it. There is probley a broken wire on it so it wont read right.

Fuel gauage not reading on 2005 kia sedona

the fuel sender in the tank is probably the problem, they do wear out quick on KIA some models.

fuel pump 005-bvfgzkcgdgpdwn0i0pszqeun-4-5.jpg use a old tooth brush not new as this is to harsh, and clean the strips on the sensor you can take this part off to clean all parts are just clipped on.

Fuel gauge changes the amount of gas shown on dash gauge when below half. with engine running in park, gauge went from half to full then to light signaling low. put gas in tank(5 gallons)now shows over...

The fuel sender is in the tank and is part of the fuel pump module ( all in one). the fuel sender is a rheostat and is like a dimmer switch in you home to dim lights, the higher the level of fuel the more voltage the computer sees hence the lower the fuel the lower the voltage it sees. With the age of the car this is likely the problem. But there is a part in the instrument cluster that reads this voltage and sends power to the gauge intermittently. In older cars it was called a anti slosh module. It was there because as the car went up and down a bumpy road the gauge would read erratically. the cost can be prohibitive to fix this but if you can live with it i would. If not expect to spend 600 dollars or more to trace it down and fix it.

1985 Dodge Ramcharger fuel gauge not working

The problem most likely is not the gauge itself. It could be faulty wiring between the gauge & sending unit, or most likely a bad sending unit in the tank. Visit Ramchargercentral.com, do a thread search on fuel gauge issues, and you'll find a ton of info. If you need anything clarified, post up on the vehicle help board...the members there are happy to help!

FUEL TANK IS HALF FULL BUT READ OUT SHOWING TANK EMPTY? fuel gauge shows half tank one minute than bam down to almost empty, then back to half. Mechanic told me that it's the fuel evaporative control...

their is a plunger in your tank just like the plunger or float in your toilet, if your car wont pass smog then yes check with your mech you might need a new evaporative canister or maybe a line in/out is pluged if your tank still wont register correctly my first comment would be in order to replace
