Question about 1995 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

I have a 1995 dodge caravan with a 2.5L 4 cylnder engine, I have replaced the water pump and still show a leak coming from the engine, I have checked the freezeout plugs and it does not appear coming from them, I have not changed out the heater hoses due to uncertainly unsure due to they have a metal pipe with hoses machine pressed on each end 1 going to the waterpump and the other going to the manifold, and the other hose coming out of the engine and going to the heater core. I am asking can I get rid of the metal pipes and run just heater hoses in thier place due to the parts store does not carry them and the possibility of one of the hoses being cracked and leaking.

Sure, have your system pressure checked. Worst case scenario, thermostat could be installed upside down or a bad head gasket. Also check for water in the oil or oil in the water. If you don't know how to do this ask at your local parts store.

this isnt a solution, just a husband,a fairly skilled home mechanic, recently did took 12 hours over a 2 day have to remove everything from the front of the motor, including the motor mounts,to access the pump.make sure you change the timing belt at the same time if it shows ANY signs of wear so you aren't doing the procedure again anytime soon..good luck!!

Dodge 2000 minivan,water pump leaking

Make sure it's cool, pop the radiator cap, Remove the shield on the passenger side between the tire and front of engine. Relieve the tension on the serp belt, draw yourself a diagram of the pulleys and belt routing in case the sticker is gone on the strut tower, remove the serp belt. Take the bolts out of the pulley on the front of the water pump (3). Remove the lower radiator hose at the front cover to drain the coolant. Remove the 6 mm bolts holding the water pump to the front cover housing. tap on the pump with a rubber hammer. Install a new gasket on the new pump, and a weap hole diverter in the pump (round black about hte size of a quarter), use old one if there's no new one. Install pupm and tighten bolts snug with a 1/4" ratchet. Install pulley and 3 bolts. Install belt, top off radiator with 50/50 mix green coolant. start engine and run to operating temperature, make sure the belt is seated in all of the pulleys and is running true, radiator fans should come on. Shut engine down and let cool overnight. Check level in radiator and overflow bottle, top off as necessary.
