Question about 1985 Volkswagen Jetta

2 Answers

My 1985 VW Jetta turbo diesel was driving fine until I ran it out of gas. It hasn't started since, and I can't figure out what the problem could be. I've of course put gas in it, checked all connections and fuel lines, etc., but nothing seems to make a difference. Any suggestions?

I am sure you put diesel in it,You have to bleed all air out of you system first by pulling your fuel filter and filling it with fuel

Hopefully you didnt ruin your engine. Diesel fuel has lubricating properties to it where gas dosent. It could have also burnt the pistons. Was the pump marked well? If not i would go after the station for damages. We had this happen several years ago, but opposite. We had a station down the road that put diesel in where the super gas pump used to be. They paid for towing to our shop and for us to remove the diesel fuel from the fuel systems. What a mess that was. Luckily no major damage was done to any. I would definately get that checked out by a mechanic who is familiar with vw diesel engines.

Does a 2001 vw jetta 2.0 have an idle air control?

No, it does not have a IAC, Confirmed with the Dealer. This is for the 2.0 GAS but it does have a Secondary Air Pump and a Secondary Air Pump Control Valve.

The Major problem with the 2001 Jetta GAS is the Mass Airflow Sensor.......

The TDI is a Turbo Diesel and is not a 2.0

Try a VW car and van Breaker. You may need to take the pipe of the breakers car, so take some tools with you. You could try a motor factors other than VW. Hope that helps you.
