I have checked the fuel pump it is working fine. I checked for spark but I had none

  • deanafromtro Sep 08, 2009

I put a scanner on the car and it tested the fuel pump and it said it was fine. It also said the crank sensor and cam sensor where fine. Do you know if I should have a wire in the plug that goes to my coil pack that should be hot with the key on because I checked them with a test light and could not find any of them that were hot.

It has 0 fuel pressure and also no spark. What I'm wondering is with out fuel pressure will it shut power off to the coil pack? Thank you in advance.

What was it running like before it quit. and you should have one live wire going to the coil when the key is on

i believe that is how the safety system is set up. there is an inetia switch in the (trunk) on most cars that will shut off the fuel supply in case of an accident. there is a test for the coil pack that you do to measure resistance between coils. if you get zero resistance between coil packs that is likely your culprit.

i might add unless you have done it already. to reset the computer in the car by unhooking the battery for about 20 minutes.

if your radio is of the anti-theft variety, make sure you know the code and how to enter it first.

It sounds like your fuel pump got weak. There was just enough pressure in the system to keep the car running ,but once you shut it off it will require more pressure to start the car.So have your fuel pressure checked the proper reading on a gauge should be at least 48psi .:)

Then your next step would be to replace your crank sensor. This controls your spark as well as your injector pulse.Do you have a way to check your injector pulse? And what if i may ask was your fuel pressure?

Yes you should have power on the dark orange/green wire with the key on. This comes from the asd relay Auto shut down (asd) So there is were i would check next In the power distribution center near the left fender!

If the asd relay is not working then you will have no spark or fuel pressure. The relay should click when you turn the key to the on posistion. This relay may be your problem.

Please check that the fuel pump is working well.

It is located in the fuel tank beneath the back seat.

Good luck dear.

three thing make an engine run---air---fuel---spark any one of these are missing---engine will not run---if you have a timing belt, it may have give up the ghost but you need to check these things out to determine the issue---no magic wand here just facts---GL

I was driving at about 70 mph all of the sudden I could no longer accelerate. When I step on the gas pedal nothing happened. I had to coast over to the side and catch a tow. The car will start fine, idles...

These vehicles use a "drive by wire" system. That means there is no longer a cable to pull the throttle open.

if something goes wrong they automatically default to 0% throttle for hard faults.

You either had a sensor go bad, or the motor that opens the throttle.

1983 Buick LeSabre Wagon, cuts out driving down the road

Find the EGR valve on the intake and locate the vacuum hose that is connected to it. Start the engine cold and as it warms up, pull the hose off and if it idles and drives fine, the EGR valve is bad and needs to be replaced. Please rate me on this answer.

Check electronic throttle control

We have been experiencing same faults on a 2005 Expedition, with engine stopping and the message "Check electronic throttle". Ifirst went to AutoZone and they read the codes. They suggested replacing thethrottle sensor, which we did, but car stopped again. We had to replace thebattery in a month and this is the fix. The battery was almost 6 years old andwhen you first start your engine, it sucks too much load and gives these faultsto the computer. It never stopped since then (3 mo already). Sometimes we useto get the message 3 times a day.

Service engine light comes on and lose power

Well for one you already paid them $90.00 so make them fix it right. Second of all it could be many things. What are the codes? If your service engine soon light is on there are codes set. Does the car run fine when cold then as it warms up does it start to run rough and eventually die?
