Question about 1989 Toyota Celica Liftback

1 Answer

How do I take the drum off of a 1989 toyota celica. The viewing port is really small. The viewing port is on top of the drum instead of the bottom. I cannot see a star wheel in the port at all but there is a slight gap in the automatic tentioner like maybe I should put a screwdriver in there but I tried that and it didn't do anything. I have replaced brakes before but not on this car. Can I just beat the drum off or do I drill out the little holder pins from the back or is there something easier?

I have done that already. Unfortunately, the brakes have made a slight lip or something so they wont just tap off. I even used a large crow bar to wedge in there and hit but that didn't work either. I cannot see a star wheel. What else is there?

NO drilling! Take a rubber mallet and work it around the edge, it will come off.

Top or bottom? It doesn't really matter. Someone has run this one out of oil to many times. Toyota builds good engines. Replace it.

HOW AND WHERE DO i PUT ANTI FREEZE IN MY 91 TOYOTA CELICA

you can add it to the radiator ( if the engine is cold) or look at the top of the radiator for a small hose...follow it to a plastic tank...check the cap on the top if the tank...it should say "engine coolant fill" or something to that effect...remove cap , and fill to the line....2 lines...marked hot or cold..depending on if the engine is at normal operating tempature...DO NOT OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP IF THE ENGINGE HAS BEEN RUNNING.. you can get burned really badly

How do you drain the radiator?

There should be a Small Drain plug at the Very Bottom of the Radiator that looks like a Wing nut. Turn this Slowly as it can Break easily!

Power steering - 1989 toyota celica

looking at the engine from the front of the car the power steering fluid is located on the left hand side and has a black plastic screw-cap about 3inches in diameter open that and pour in fluid. be sure to watch the level markers on the side so you dont overfill. also if you need to keep topping up powersteering fluid you have a leak and should get it fixed asap.
