Question about 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier
Depenging on the last time the car had a tune up you may just have weak spark plugs and wires giving a poor spark and causing it to missfire under a load

Change fuel filter. add can of SEAFOAM to 1/2 tank of Premium gas. change pcv valve. make sure you add every 3-5000 miles another can of Seafoam to tank, and it will help with EGS(ethanol gas syndrome)/ you've got goop and water in everything. do these ASAP, as EGS will fry a fuel pump in a heart beat.
