Rear air conditioning blowing hot air

2003 E500.....i am having a problem with my rear air conditioning. while i'm driving, every 10 or 20 minutes or so, the rear air will blow out hot air. the controls say its on low. i temp. fix it by raising the control to high and holding it there for about 10 seconds. then i have to turn it down and hold it for 10 seconds. it will blow out cold air again for about, like i said earier, 10 or 20 minutes then go back to hot air.

I suggest that you take the Vehicle to a Reputable A/c Repairer, NOT a Muppet Shop, as I call them occassionally.
Request a CHECK and ADVISE ONLY. on the system. This will determine the exact fault[s] in the system.
From you comments, I would expect to find a Reducing Freon flow, through a probable Expansion valve failing.
Then you can decide, if on nearing the end of the HOT period, having the Diagnostic done, is the expense justified now, or can it wait until later.
Regards, DT

If you were low on freon before, It's possible you have a leak in your system. If you take it back, have them check for the leak before they let you drive off with another freon loss.
Good luck...

Have you checked the coolant level? If it's low, it will result in diminished heat, and could be the problem.

It sounds like your rear temp. blend door is malfunctioning. You might could get a known good controller from (ebay, junkyard, craigslist) then plug it in. If this does not fix, it is probably a blend door actuator issue.
