Question about 1999 Toyota 4Runner

1 Answer

Hello, I have a 1999 toyota limited 4-runner (4x4) and have been troubshooting a transmision problem for months. Only on cold starts and only when it's cold outside, when shifted to drive and second, it will be sluggish if moves at all. It's works fine in low and once it's warmed up, no issues. Both trans sensors have been replaced, trans been flushed and computer connectors cleaned. I'm aover $800.00 into this and starting to give up. Any ideas?

Find a good transmission shop or a friend that is capable. It sounds like either your linkage may have been compromised or you need some serious transmission repair.

Does truck have to be running on my 1990 toyota 4-runner 4x4 ?

No, you can do it without the engine running. The power assist just makes braking easier. Just make sure you don't move the pedal till the bleeder is tight, then pump it back up an do it again. Start at the right rear and move towards the front left. Hope this helps.

1999 Toyota 4-Runner sometimes won't start

Sounds like the starter is getting ready to go out. I'd look at being ready to replace it soon. If it is a stick shift transmission car, you can PUSH start the car, but you probably want to get it done before this happens. This is what mine did, click, click, start, over a period of about 2 weeks before it finally went out. Replaced it, starts first time every time now.

Hope this helps.
