Question about 2004 Chevrolet Malibu
I have the same car -- had the same problem. It is a problem with the anti-theft not recognizing the cut of your key. Your car thinks you are trying to steal it with another key!

The ignition switch in dash may have in theft mode. after turning on key not to start does security light flash or stay on? if so hook battery charger on car, then turn key on for roughly 30 min till security light goes out. that resets theft mode.
