Question about 1994 Buick Park Avenue

Dancing battery meter.

My battery meter has been dancing around for about 2 months now. It recently started to get worse. One thing it was doing was whenever I pressed on the brake, the meter would drop a little lower then back up. it also drops when i turn on the rear window defrost. I replaced the alternator a few days ago and now when i sit at a red light the meter dances around worse and the car shakes..

Any Idea what the problem is??

Yes, your alternator is faulty based on your discription . However before young out and replace it, make sure all connections are hooked up good and alternator belt is tight. If you have a amp meter tester , you can test the out put. I bet 5 times a month I am helping customers with same problem. I can not believe these part places can not seem to build decent alternators and starters. This seems to be getting worse and worse over the years. I had one customer last year, that had to put on 3 before found one that actually worked. I would replace alternator( should be at least a min of 30 day warranty, if you just bought, but the require your bad one of course in trade. Thanks, hope this helped you. Mike from fixya

check the voltage on the battery with a volt meter, it should be around 12.6 to 13 volts, if not charge battery with a charger, after charge try to start vehicle, if the vehicle starts use your volt meter at the battery again, the voltage should be around 14 to 14.5 any lower and the battery isn't being charged and the alternator should be checked and or replaced to solve the problem..

I think a new set of spark plugs and a new air filter would help. The next time it doesn't want to start, don't keep cranking on the starter. That just runs the battery down. You need to check to see if there is fire at the spark plugs. If you got spark, then pull a spark plug and see if it is wet with gasoline. If it's dry, then you will know it's a fuel problem. And don't press on the gas pedal when your trying to start the engine. With fuel injection, that just makes things worse. Have the computer scanned for trouble codes to find out if there's a problem with one of the many sensors.

2002 Ford ranger starting

I had a similar problem with my old 1996 Mercury Sable. Turns out the problem was the Ignition switch was shot. Replaced it, problem solved.

That would be the next thing to check.
