SOURCE: I want to know how to change the gas tank on a

jack up the back of the car a high as you can, support with stands, purchase high pressure fuel line tool a local parts store, about 12 bucks.use a floor jack with a 2'x2' piece of plywood to suppport the weight better, remove the two long straps holding it up,one bolt on each, toward the front of the car, lower just enough to get at the fuel line connections, use the tool to unlock the special clips, you can also use a couple of scribes,or small flat screwdrivers,to get them apart, disconnect the fill tube, the hose that you put gas in the car from.might have to open the gas flap, remove cap,if there is screws or bolts take them out, unplug the wire harness going to the fuel pump on the top of the tank, everything should be un-hooked,just slowley lower it down, and pull it out the back on the jack, the less fuel in it the the easier it is ,i have a 2000 lumina, same engine, doesnt even look like you have to touch the exaust at all, should be the same as yours,un-hook the negative battery cable before you start just to be safe, hope this helps

SOURCE: I want to know how many gallons that the gas tank

Your owner's manual will have that info. On '97 Chevy Lumina 3.1 holds 61 litres... according to the manual.

Its possible that you are interesting to get the 1998 Chevroler Lumina - Owners Manual, there mentioned 16.6 gallons...

I have a 98 lumina and it has a skip in it when u go up a hill or get down to a guarter tank of gas i put new plugs and fuel filter on it

When it gets dark out ,Park in a DARK spot, fire it up ,open the hood ,look and see if the plug wires look like the 4th of july.
There should be NO sparks ,if you see the wires glowing or an outright display of sparks ,change the wires (1 at a time)
I would put money on this one ,
If you spray windex on the wires it will bring any suspect weak wire into view.

Fuel is leaking from the top of the gas tank

Sounds like one of the lines have a hole. You will have to let the tank down and see where the gas is coming from. You likely need to replace the sending unit/hanger assembly.

My 1998 chevy lumina decelerated from 60 mph to 50 to 40, so I pulled over, and the car would not start since, what is the problem?

this sounds fuel related to me. did the car just all of a sudden start losing power on the highway? i guess it would crank and crank, but not start when you pulled over? have you run out of gas recently or frequently? i would check your fuel filter first, but it sounds like your fuel pump just up and quit on you. that pump is, of course, inside the gas tank. pulling the tank involves 2 straps, 3 fuel lines, and an electrical connector plug. hopefully you were low on gas when it happened. that way the tank is not so heavy and hard to work with.

You will need to drop the tank if you have a strong gas odor. Rubber line between sending unit and metal pipe is leaking.

BUTTTERFINGER IN GAS TANK

its a common myth that sugar in a gas tank can foul up your system. this is false to a major degree. While foriegn objects in your system is not a good thing, the gasoline should break most of the soluable particles, and the others will float to the bottom.
