First you want to make sure that there are no obstuctions under the compartment area that may be keeping the top from resting in its bay.If that is clear, put the top halfway up and look for any leakage around the lift and collapse pistons. If you see any at all the pistons have to be resealed or replaced. If you do not see any leakage, look for a sheared pin in the pivot areas of the mainframe in the rear.

Sounds as if an adjustment is needed and there should be a tension-er of some sort look at it or perhaps you could shim it depending on just how far you need to push it down to lock it try a bit of white lithium grease on the worm gear as its going up then back down should help considerably

Chrysler Sebring 2008 convertible top malfunction message

As long as the trunk is open, It won't work. The top has it's own computer. Have the codes read. Takes a scanner. These have like 20 sensors and switches for the top and trunk. You can try to close the latch on the trunk with a screwdriver to get it to work. Another thing is there is a cover that pulls out . This has to be pulled out and latched in place. This will keep it from working also.

How can I open the hood if the cable is broken

From underneath the car, thesis basic. When you pull on the wire, the latch open, lay on your back from under the car, and with a screwdriver push the latch.

BMW Z4 convertible top opened and now wont close. Motor runs then stops. Latch is stuck and the emergency pull cord will not release. How do I get to the latch to free the top?

try a spray lubricant into the motor mechanism and grease any visable wire cables that run from/to motor ,not the electrical cables the bare wire winder cables, also grease/ lubricate any accessable pivot/hinge points , gently pull the cord and gently push the roof back and forth occasionally trying motor with a bit of patience this should get the roof moving , also look for anything that may be snagging the roof/mechanism as there is a pressure protection system to stop the roof being fully closed on say someones hand so preventing injury

Convertible top is up. D-ring turns but I cannot push up to open the top. Windows go down OK but I can't even get the top to release from the bulkhead.

The latch mechanism is broken. The D-ring is attached to a round shaft with two plates that hold sockest. The socket fits a ball end of a rod.
When you twist the d-ring it pulls/pushes rods and opens/closes latch on each corner above windshield.
You will need to pull all inside trim around inside of windshield and interior light to access the mechanism. Or try to squeeze hand between fabric and header to get rod balls back into sockets to release top so you can replace mechanism.

2008 sebring convertible when top is up trunk will not close

Mine took several hard slams to latch, with top up or down. Finally got dealer to adjust the latch which they originally said wasn't possible. Wore grooves into the latch rod while it was out of adustment, but at least now it closes.

My 2008 Chrysler Sebring Limited convertible has a problem with the trunk latch. It won't stay closed. It keeps unlatching. Do you know what the problem is? How do I fix it?

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. You need to check the latch. There is a small lever that you can push to unlock and lock the hatch. Try pushing it over and see if that helps.

My 2008 Chrysler Sebring Limited convertible has a problem with the trunk latch. It won't stay closed. It keeps unlatching. Do you know what the problem is? How do I get it to stop unlatching?

I did this to my car once. Be sure the latch isn't closed as you are trying to close the trunk. With the trunk open pop the trunk once, then see if the trunk latches properly.

I can't get my convertible top to go up or down, it is stuck half way. Is there a manual release for it?

The convertible top motor and release lever are in the luggage compartment.
From the Bentley manual, the following general procedure is suggested in order to close the top in an emergency situation.
Main motor. To release the top linkage from the motor, lift the left corner of the rear seat to access emergency release handle.
It is then possible to push the top manually to a near closed position. In case of the semi-automatic top, simply attach and lock the front latches.
Front latches. Once the fully automatic convertible top has been released from the motor and manually pushed to near-closure, emergency latching of the top is possible by using the S-shaped hex key provided in the emergency tool kit(attached to the trunk lid underside).
First, remove the the plastic cover over the latch motor in the front bow of the convertible top.
Next, use the hex key from the tool box to crank the front latches shut.

Lowering convertible top

There should be latches you have to pull first to unlock the top from the windshield. Pull down the sun visors, the handles should be under them. Then push the power top switch.
