On my 99 chevy blazer -- Driver side brake light wont work,

The middle & right brake light works just fine , I was told that it would be either my switch or the turn signal . What do you think it is ?

Thank You much ..

I'm saying that the passenger & the middle brake light works, the driver side brake light does not . The park lights & the turn & back up lights all work just fine -- just the driver side brake light will not come on..

    Ye I changed all bulbs..

  • mrdmand Sep 07, 2009

I checked for corrosion and there is none..Looks like it points to the turn switch, I hope it's not too hard to replace.. Thank you.

I found out that it's my turn signal , while moving my turn signal around while pressing on my brake - the driver side light came on just for a min. So i belive it's the turn signal.. Does anyone know how to change it ?? Thank You for any help..

are you saying Only the right side works and the left does not ? and when you say middle are you referring to the running lights if this is true and you checked the bulbs for being in good order then i would agree with that statement

Change out bulb to confirm good bulb.. if still doesn't work then a very commom problem is the combination switch... or turn switch they are called... your brake signal goes throught the turn switch...,.... consider the switch bad

Did you notice any corrosion in the socket at all ? if not then it may very well be the lever as over time of using it they wear out often in fact i just changed my own for just this reason as the contacts are worn out inside the unit still this may not be the exact cause of your issue hmm its odd the running lights still work along with it though so dont rule out completely as of yet let me think here ....im wondering sometimes the bulb needs to be installed the other way try that for whatever reason if able to but check for corrosion and its possible a wire for the brake itself has become pinched or corroded ..maby check that too while your there with a test light as well to see it the wire has ant power to the brake light socket and work your way back and find where power begins and where it ends should run along the panel follow the wires back until power is found ... some models ive seen them run underneath the vehicle along the frame rail look at the ground but that should be good if everything but the one brake light works this is my suggestion as process of elimination to finding the cause .'...please let me know what you discover

I have the same problem and was told by a mechanic its my turn signal switch. I have a Haynes Repair Manual and these instructions I found online seem to follow what my manual says so I hope this helps.

No brake lights on driver side

I suspect there is a ground problem. Look for wires that run to the chassis near the tail light.

I have 1999 Blazer with brake light out on driver side only. All other lights work. Replaced bulbs but nothing changed. Swapped the working lights from the other (right side) with the driver side but...

THE BRAKE LIGHTS DO GO THROUGH THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. TO TEST, REMOVE THE PLASTIC COVER AROUND THE THE COLUMN, UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL. THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH MUST BE IN THE OFF POSITION. YOU WILL NEED TO EXPOSE THE WIRES UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL. DO NOT DISTURB THE WIRES IN THE YELLOW JACKET. THEY ARE AIRBAG WIRES. YELLOW PLUGS YELLOW JACKETED WIRES ARE AIRBAG.THE WIRE IN QUESTION HERE IS YELLOW BUT IT IS NOT IN A YELLOW JACKET, [ SLEEVE ]. NOW, PUSH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE YELLOW WIRE IS LEFT REAR TURN & BRAKE WIRE, DARK GREEN IS RIGHT REAR TURN & BRAKE WIRE. BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, IF BOTH OF THOSE WIRES HAVE POWER, ALL OF THAT IS OK. IF THE YELLOW WIRE HAS NO POWER TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IS BAD

Driver side power window won't go up on 99 chevy blazer

bad switch or motor
To check the motor the motor has two connections. One for up and one for down. Try hot wiring the connections to check. If it works the drivers switch is bad

Why wont my 99 chevy blazer temperature warm up?

You may have vapour lock in your heater lines. Start engine, put heat lever on high, disconnect one of the lines on your heater core, the one on the flow out side, & see if you have any air coming out. Once antifreese comes out stick line back on & retighten clamp. Make sure your cooling system is topped off. Also your water pump may not be functionihg to it's maximum. Take rad cap off cold & view flow rate. If inadequate you may have to replace the water pump. Good luck!

The brake lights my 2000 Chevy Blaser do not work, the turn lights work and the running lights work and the brake light on top of the blazer is working

We bought a 2000 Blazer in '02 and one day I noticed there were no brake lights, but the 3rd light on top worked fine. I did some research online and found out there was a recall on this problem due to the hazard switch on the column. I also found out if I wiggled the hazard switch a certain way, the brake lights worked. I was able to get by for awhile by wedging a 'widget' beside the hazard switch button and the hole in the column cover. This worked fine until someone would knock the widget out of place.
I finally got around to having the switch replaced at a local dealer. All was fine until last week when I was told the brake lights were out again and I found out my hazard lights didn't work either. I changed out the switch assembly myself this time, and once I had it out I saw what happened. The brake light voltage comes in to the assembly on a white wire, and the first contact this goes through is on the hazard switch. In my case the contact had obviously overheated from the brake light current and melted the plastic holding the contact in place, thus breaking the circuit to the brakes. Either a poor design or too much current for the circuit to handle.
Soooooo now I am in the process of replacing the four bulbs in the tail/brake light assembly with 3 watt Luxeon LED plug-in replacements. The current draw of the original bulbs was measured at 2.2 amps at 13.8 volts, times 4 bulbs makes about 8.8 amps that goes through the contact in the hazard switch whenever the brakes are stomped. The LED replacements draw .2 amp each, so times 4 will be .8 amp or less than 1/10th of the original equipment bulbs. These LED bulbs in my opinion are as bright or brighter than the original equipment and hopefully will help from burning out another switch assembly.. David
