To isolate to a fuel problem, spray carb cleaner into the throttle body while cranking the engine...if it starts then your problem is in fuel system. Pressure, injector pulses etc will need to be tested. Any stored codes in the computer may be helpful there, and definitely should be checked.

While you are cranking the engine over, do you have spark?

  • Richard Scordino May 11, 2010

cranking is what the engine does when you turn the key (before it starts, the starter turns the engine)...Is it doing that?

When you say crank do you mean it will not turn over

IF ALL PLUGS + WIRES + CAP AND ROTOR BEEN CHANGED. THE PROBLEM COULD BE IN THE IGNITION SYSTEM.LIKE THE IGNITION MODULE OR COIL.SCAN IT TO CHECK TO MAKE SURE PCM IS OPERATING.MAKE SURE FUEL PRESSURE IS 40 - 47 PSI.

I have a 2005 jeep liberty crank no start, no codes. battery, plugs, coils, fuel relay/fuses,crank&cam position senors all good. injectors have good resitance and power. no fuel pressure. pump in...

Might check for power to pump. You have fuse (some have 2), relay, and pump. These pumps are common failure items, and the aftermarket offers several really poor quality replacements. Either get a Delphi brand, or dealer pump. If you drop the tank remember an empty tank is full of fumes which are more explosive than the fuel is. Don't use a trouble lamp with incandesent bulb; use battery flashlight. BE CAREFUL!

Start with fuel system. Listen for fuel pump humm at fuel tank No humm check wiring to pump for power. Then check for spark at plugs and wires. Remove wire from coil and hold near engine and see arch when you crank. No arch. Replace ignition Modular inside distributor cap or cap or rotor

Car cut off and will not start

Since spraying starting fluid in the car it runs, tells you that the problem is fuel related. You need to check the fuel system step by step completely. It seems you have done some of the checks already, but you don't say weather you checked if you get fuel on both sides of the fuel filter. If you only get fuel on the inlet side and not the outlet, your fuel filter is clogged, so replace it and recheck. If no fuel on either side and you say the fuel pump works check the fuel pump relay. Don't just replace the computer before all checks are made the relay, fuse and grounds, etc. This can be tiresome but can also save alot of money if you check system and don't skip steps you'll find your problem.

1998 mitsubishi mirage wont start?

check if the fuel pump is working, if you have someone near the tank and someone else crank motor you should be able to hear a bzzzzzz rom the tank from the pump. if no noise is heard then hit or thump the tank, this can make a fuel pump start to work again, if it starts, then the pump is almost dead

Air lock on diesel to engine on c 250 td - how do I solve

Hi,
the only permanent solution to your problem is to replace ALL the O-rings on the injection pump fuel lines. Don't forget the one behind the fuel cut-off valve as well..
This is the only soltion that really worked for me.
