Question about 2002 Dodge Ram Maxi

1 Answer

My 02 Dodge ram 4x4 makes a grinding sound and can be felt while turning left or right from a stop and also turning in reverse like in a parking lot all while in 2wd. It only seems to do it when the truck has been driven for a while and is hot. When its been sitting over night there is no noise till a number of miles have been traveled. Also once warmed up, during swooping turns at moderate speeds (ie. 30mph), I hear, not really the grinding, but kind of a odd pulsating humming noise. I feel the two are related, but I don't know. Also seems odd that when truck has been sitting an completely cooled off (like this morning on the way to work-only 4 miles), none of the sound manifested.

I would check your inside brake shoes in side the rotors on the back wheels for your emergency brakes.

I have a 03 Dodge Ram 2500 Hemi 4X4 that is making a very loud knocking sound in the frontend when I turn left, or right.

check the cv axles at the front differential. inner joints get loose on the splines and cause a knocking noise.

2006 dodge ram crew cab 4x4 Just had new pads and rotors on front end and still have a slight rubbing/grinding sound but only seems to be from driverside front.

If you start to hear it about 30 - 40MPH and the noise changes if you steer to the left or right than it may be worth checking the wheel bearing.

Rear end noise on 2002 Dodge ram 1500

If you have a positraction differential, you need posi additive along with the new lube. After it's in, take it to a parking lot and make tight left turns then tight right turns to get the lube between the posi plates. That usually frees it up unless there is an actual mechanical problem in the diff.
good luck!

Grinding feeling in differantial

There had been a glitch in the system when you last answered. By now likely the problem would be much worse if it were a bearing or even a gear...there is an additive for posis. add it as per instructions and make a series of tight left and right turns in a parking lot to separate the posi plates. If they aren't fused, that should have some effect.
