You can remove the tire and use a pry bar to get in between the brake pad and the rotor to try compress the piston perhaps enough to loosen it up enough to get it off

Only 1 front wheel is locked not rotating at all what would cause this


Either the brake on that side has locked and failed, or the whell bearing is frozen and needs to be replaced.

This will likely be the left brake caliper piston is 'frozen' and cannot release once the brake peal is released after applying them. This causes overheating of the brake rotor, thus creating smoke, heat and smell. If you look at your rotor it is probably a blue color, which is not normal. However, in some cases the brake caliper that is frozen will not work and overloads the opposite side. The brake calipers must be checked for piston movement - by removing the caliper and trying to depress the piston back into its bore, if it will not depress the caliper must be replaced. The same holds true for the rear.

How much should it cost to replace calipers and pads on a 2005 6cyl 2wd 4 Runner?


If they order the parts from rockauto its about $630-700 in parts. $50-60 front and rear brake pads, $ 100 -115 2 better front rotors, $100 for better rear rotors, $90 for each rear caliper, 100-125 per front caliper, $10 for each rubber brake line. (The caliper prices include a core fee that you would get back $30-40 per caliper returning the old caliper, but you pay the shipping fees). The ballpark prices also include the additional shipping costs. Labor should be around 2-2.5hrs. So depending on the shop it would be $50-60/hr so total cost $100-150 for the labor. So total would be somewhere around $730-850. You can just have the one caliper replaced, you do not need to replace them all. I would get new rotors on whichever axle (front or rear) the stuck caliper is on and not get the rotors cut, because the faulty caliper could have warped the rotor. Another possibility is that it could just need a new rubber brake line. When my calipers locked on one of my classic trucks, I just replaced the old rubber line and it was good to go. -Fawkes

I removed the caliper & caliper bracket but rotor won't come off.


Im not sure what kind of car this is but first make sure there are no bolts on the front holding the rotor to the hub , if there are no bolts then the rotor is frozen to hub, you will need to beat the rotor off, using a hammer kit the rotor with force and turn every so often, hit it from the area where the caliper sat. good day.

Disk brakes are automatically self adjusting. If you have too much travel in the pedal, bleed the brakes. Let us know if you need the procedure.

Show installation procedures for front brakes on 1993 jeep cherokee ,country model. size of nut that holds front brake rotor in place


Don't need a diagram for this... Leave the center nut alone! To replace the pads and remove the rotors, remove the two bolts that are on the inboard side of the calipers. Can't remember the size but there are small, somewhere around 10mm to 1/2". Once you get them off, remove the pads, then re-install the inner pad and using a large "c" clamp, drive the piston back into the caliper.
Once the caliper has been removed, it should just about fall off.
If not, use lots of wd40 or other solvent around where it meets the hub and into the wheel studs where they pass through the rotor. Use a heavy mallet or even a hammer to loosen them up.
Rotors are inexpensive and generally cutting them unless they are not very old is not recommended, so don't bother saving them unless it's absolutely necessary.
Be careful threading the caliper bolts back in. They must be in straight as they are very narrow and easily cross threaded.Always make sure that the slides they pass through are not frozen ane are properly lubed. Install is the reverse of removal.

Warped jeep rotors


Three items that can cause that are seized caliper slide pins, frozen (partially) caliper piston or an internally failing brake hose (rubber one from body to caliper) Problem with any of these will keep caliper partially applied and will overheat and warp the rotor. Also, I recommend torquing wheel lugs when assembling...use star pattern.

Frozen rear caliper


usually a bad bearing will cause a bad angle/pressure on the pad which causes caliper to get uneven pressure on piston. causing a freeze. other thing is bad alignment due to bad bushings on the control arms.
