If this car has the 3800 or 3.8 ltr its on the passenger side towards the fire wall, the fill sits low in the back ,behind the engine, you might need a transmission funnel so you dont spill the p/s fluid all over the back of the engine, hope this helps

If it's whining then there's definitely a problem. You can change the power steering fluid and then check if the problem is verified or not.

Low on power steering fluid, probably a leaking seal or hose, make sure you have enough, it will now proably be foaming because of the air in there. If fluid level is OK, your power steering pump is going out; or both...

I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS 3800 V6. It was driving fine last night and now the steering is tight it will barely turn. The power steering fluid isn't low. What could be the problem?

Where do I put Power Steering Fluid in, 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo

it goes in the power steering pump reservoir. Look on the belt side of the engine, ps often rearward on passenger side, obscured from vision by engine parts. Need a flex funnel to add.

Why do you need to add fluid, does it leak?

Where do I put power steering fluid, brake fluid and oil in a 1986 Chev Monte Carlo

The power steering resivore is on the left side ( driver side ) of the engine there is a cap for the pump , the brake fluid goes into the master cylinder remove the cap if it needs fluid the oil is either a rubber ( press on pull off ) or metal cap( twist on and off) located on one side of the engines valve covers on most chevrolets driver side as well . never over fill a fluid level .

What kind of fluid should i use for my power steering pump?

Use any thing from the auto parts store that says power steering fluid.
The only car I know off the top of my head that uses a special fluid is Honda. But for GM cars regular fluid will be fine.
If you are really low/dry/major leak you can also use tranmission fluid in a pinch.

Lost power steering on 2001 Monte Carlo SS

I don't know how much this will help but some common problems with loosing power steering is that your power steering pump is gone.your pump is about a foot below the alternator on the side of the firewall - hard to get to it under the hood without removing some items, I got some prices for you and a new pump couls cost anyware from $18 to $70. also the belt could have loosened up just enough that your power steering wont work. hope this helped.
