Change fuel filter and add a can of SEAFOAM(parts stores) to your fuel tank. You suffer from EGS(ethanol gas syndrome). It is worse on older cars. it clogs everything and dumps water in everything also. because ethanol has corn in it;when heated, it is like moonshine in your car(this is true). Try this and it should help greatly

97 ford 4.0 idles smooth, accelerate there is a point where motor sputters if i back off and then push harder it smooths out.engine light on code says #3 sparkplug but seems to be firing fine at idle

There's no code that says, "#3 spark plug" but there is a code P0303 which indicates a misfire has been detected on cylinder #3. That misfire could be due to a spark plug, but it could also be a bad spark plug wire or CoP, a bad fuel injector, bad injector wiring, burnt valve, etc. Changing the spark plugs and wires would likely be the easiest and one of least expensive places to start, especially if the truck is due for a tune up anyway, but if that doesn't fix it, consider the fuel injector next. Just because it idles fine does not mean that the spark is strong at higher engine speeds.

You might also want to clean your MAF sensor and check the linearity of your throttle position sensor (TPS) to make sure the stumble is not due to a bad spot in the TPS.

1997 Lincoln town car acceleration problem.. Normal acceleration OK When full throttle applied rapidly, engine hesitates and stumbles. The computer code is P0174 indicating bank #2 lean. I have changed the...

Hey Bill, To answer your question about injectors, without a scanner capable of performing a injector balance test its very difficult to narrow down a clogging injector, you could however get a injection cleaning done at the shop of your choice, or even try a fuel additive to pour into fuel tank, however based upon the work you already have done, and the drive-ability your experiencing I would say you have a bad upstream O2 sensor. Bank 2 should be passenger side next to exhaust manifold. If you have access to a scanner you could check the O2 switching, however, I think that's your problem. Fuel pressure would cause both banks lean, vac leaks would really affect idle, and a ignition problem would usually set a misfire code. One thing you could try however which i have had success with is cleaning your mass air flow sensor, auto part store stock it, very easy to perform, i have had luck with it in the past, if dirty it can throw fuel trims out of spec. If you need any thing else let me know, and make sure you let engine cool for a period of time before touching any exhaust areas.

82 22-R toyota truck automatic runs fine idles fine then for no reason will not idle when stopped. I have to give it gas to keep running but runs rough. New plugs, dist. cap, wires, & rotory button....

I would suggest also replacing all O2 sensors, PCV valve, air filter, fuel filter.. Just might clear it up.. Not expensive and if issue continues - you will have ruled all that out as a cause..

Have a nice day !

I have 8000 miles on my Tucson check engine light came on at start up this morning...gas cap is tight...no problems?????

there are over 200 reasons for the check engine light to come on, the gas tank cap is just one of them, this light and the problem that turned it on are most likely covered under the federal emission warranty, contact the dealer. see trouble code list below for some of the probelems that cause a check enghine light.

Problem while driving 1987 jeep cherokee

Your engine is stumbling "off idle" - as it switches from idle to throttle control. The idle air motor regulates the air flow and engine speed at idle. If the idle is smooth but the stumble occurs just as the throttle is pressed this isn't the problem, The MAP sensor is mounted in the middle of the firewall behind the engine just below the hood. It has to sense the manifold vacuum drop when the throttle is opened. This my first suspect. Second would be the fuel pressure regulator. If it runs O.K. after you get it going, this is a weak suspect unless it loses power when pulling. A bad fuel pump, again low fuel pressure. Just like the squirt from the accelerator pump in the carburetor days, the injectors have to deliver a good stiff shot of fuel when the throttle opens to keep the engine from stumbling. The MAP sensor will tell the ECM a squirt is needed but the fuel system has to have the pressure to deliver.

Having a problem with my 93 camry v6. car shakes when it is idle, when i accelerate car makes a clunking noise and doesnt accelerate as fast as it used to. also check engine light is on. could it be dirty...

Most likely you need motor mounts for the shaking and clunking.
The check engine light being on could cause the accelerating problem. It could be something as simple as the fuel filter being old and plugged up. Have you ever changed the fuel filter? This could cause the engine to run lean making the check engine light come on. And when accelerating the engine will be "starving" for fuel causing poor acceleration.

1998 Cavalier 2.4 L stumbles and misses at 2000-2500 RPM

Vacuume Leaks can cause this problems. you have to do a through check of vacuum hoses and the EGR valve. Your best bet can be to have your vehicle scanned at an autozone store and get a code. The EGR has to be closed at idle, then as the engine warms up or is accelerated, the EGR opens. That is if your car does not have an electronic EGR . The electronic EGRs do not use vacuum to operate. They are controlled by the PCM (power train control Module).
